Job Description
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Communication Engineer who is responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of communication systems that support voice, data, and video transmission across multiple platforms including wired, wireless, and satellite networks. This role focuses on ensuring high-performance, secure, and compliant communication infrastructure through hands-on technical work, system configuration, and cross-functional collaboration.
Primary Responsibilities:
Design, develop, and maintain communication systems and networks supporting voice, data, and video.
Work on both hardware and software components to ensure efficient and reliable connectivity.
Implement configuration updates for integrated communication platforms (e.g., NRO Integrated Security System).
Configure and troubleshoot communication and network equipment such as routers, switches, antennas, and transceivers.
Evaluate system performance and recommend improvements or upgrades to optimize network reliability and efficiency.
Ensure compliance with industry standards, FCC regulations, and applicable cybersecurity policies.
Collaborate with IT professionals, project managers, and hardware engineers to integrate communication solutions into broader system architectures.
Develop and maintain technical documentation, including diagrams, schematics, and user manuals.
Support the installation, testing, and maintenance of new and existing communication infrastructure.
Basic Qualifications
TS/SCI w/ Poly Clearance is required
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
2+ years of relevant experience in communications systems engineering, or a Master’s degree with less than 2 years of experience. Additional experience in lieu of degree.
Working knowledge of communications system design, modeling, and simulation for wired, wireless, and secure systems.
Hands-on experience with signal processing, modulation, and coding techniques.
Proficiency in at least one area: data links, LAN/WAN, VoIP, wireless communications, or telecommunications infrastructure.
Ability to troubleshoot, monitor, and maintain communication systems and related hardware.
Familiarity with network cabling, hardware installations, and support/maintenance practices.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Capable of working independently on moderately complex projects and collaborating across multidisciplinary teams.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with 4G LTE networks or next-generation wireless technologies.
Practical knowledge of Quality of Service (QoS) configurations and their impact on network performance.
Familiarity with secure communications systems, including encryption and compliance requirements.
Background working with VoIP systems, PBX, or enterprise-level telephone systems.
Experience supporting telecommunications infrastructure projects including installation, modification, and vendor coordination.
Knowledge of project management principles with the ability to lead or contribute to technical projects.
Proficiency with simulation tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, or communications modeling platforms.
Certifications such as:
CompTIA Network+
Cisco CCNA or CCNP
Certified Wireless Network Professional (CWNP)
Project Management Professional (PMP)
EC-DAS

Pay Range:Pay Range $57,850.00 - $104,575.00The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary.
