Wells Fargo is seeking a seasoned communications leader to serve as Director of Communications supporting the company's Technology Organization. This role will shape and execute strategic communications that advance enterprise technology priorities, strengthen employee engagement, and protect and enhance the company's reputation as a leader in the industry. You will act as a trusted advisor to senior technology leaders, translating complex initiatives into clear, compelling narratives for internal and external audiences. The role operates in a highly regulated, fast-moving environment and involves applying strong business acumen and sound judgment to navigate complex situations.
This position can be based in Charlotte, NC or New York, NY.
In this role, you will:
- Develop and lead integrated communications strategies that support enterprise technology priorities, including modernization, innovation, cybersecurity, and digital transformation
- Partner with senior technology executives to provide counsel on messaging, positioning, and stakeholder engagement
- Align technology communications with enterprise narrative, brand voice, and business objectives
- Create high-impact content for senior leaders (e.g., speeches, town halls, employee messaging, board-level materials)
- Prepare executives for internal and external engagements, ensuring clarity, consistency, and credibility
- Drive employee communications for large-scale technology initiatives and organizational changes
- Simplify complex technical concepts for broad internal audiences
- Foster understanding, alignment, and engagement across the enterprise
- Partner closely with Corporate Communications, Risk, Legal, and Compliance to manage reputational risk
- Support issues management and crisis communications related to technology, cybersecurity, or operational incidents
- Work across lines of business, corporate functions, and communications teams to ensure integrated storytelling
- Collaborate with media relations, social media, and digital teams to amplify key initiatives
- Lead and develop a high-performing communications team
- Establish clear priorities, workflows, and performance expectations
- Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement
Required Qualifications:
- 8+ years of Public Relations, Media Relations or Corporate Communications experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
- 4+ years of management or leadership experience
Desired Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience supporting large, complex technology organizations, with the ability to translate highly technical initiatives into clear, compelling narratives
- Deep experience counseling executives on high profile issues and delivery of internal communications
- Experience managing crisis communications or issues management
- Proven ability to serve as a trusted advisor to senior executives, with strong executive presence, sound judgment, and experience counseling leaders on high-profile issues
- Demonstrated credibility to lead communications for large-scale technology transformation, influencing senior leaders through relationships, trusted counsel, and constructive challenge
- Experience leading communications for enterprise-wide technology transformations, including change management and employee engagement initiatives Crisis and issues management experience, including communications related to technology
- Experience operating in a highly regulated environment, with a strong understanding of risk, compliance, and reputational considerations
- Strong strategic mindset, with the ability to align communications to enterprise priorities and measure effectiveness
