What You Will Do:

With mentorship and support from more senior team members, this role will:

  • Support the execution of communications plans for business initiatives and public affairs priorities.

  • Assist with drafting and editing communications materials such as news releases, media advisories, backgrounders, employee communications, presentations, speaking notes, digital content, and key messages.

  • Monitor media coverage, track inquiries, gather background information, maintain media lists, and help prepare materials to support media responses and spokesperson preparation.

  • Seek to understand the business context behind assignments and find opportunities, risks, or considerations that may strengthen communications recommendations.

  • Bring forward observations, questions, and ideas that may improve communications outcomes, audience understanding, or team efficiency.

  • Provide support during issues and crisis situations by gathering information, drafting updates, tracking approvals, and advancing items as required.

  • Coordinate with internal partners to collect information, confirm details, and support the timely completion of communications deliverables.

  • Support the development of digital communications content, including intranet posts, social media copy, digital newsletters, graphics briefs, and campaign materials.

  • Monitor digital communications trends, analytics, and audience engagement to help find opportunities for more effective storytelling.

  • Help test and adopt new digital tools, templates, and AI-enabled practices that improve team efficiency and content quality.

Who You Are:
  • University degree or equivalent experience in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Public Affairs, or a related field.

  • One to three years of related communications, public affairs, media relations, or corporate communications experience, including internships or co-op placements.

  • Interest in learning about communications, media relations, collaborating with partners, and the energy sector.

  • Foundational experience supporting communications activities such as drafting materials, monitoring media coverage, preparing briefing notes, or coordinating approvals.

  • Strong writing, editing, research, and verbal communication skills, with attention to accuracy and detail.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work collaboratively under the mentorship of more senior team members.

  • Demonstrated curiosity, good judgment, and willingness to learn from feedback and apply lessons to future work.

  • Ability to explore and recommend new tools and AI-enabled solutions that improve efficiency.

  • Strong time management skills.

Salary:
  • Ranges from $63,000 – $85,000 CAD for Ontario locations based upon candidate’s experience, skills, and internal equity.

  • Applicable compensation policies and guidelines apply to internal candidates.

Working Conditions:
  • Office-based three days a week with standard business hours.
