Position Summary:
The Canadian Centre for Computational Genomics (C3G) is a national research platform offering bioinformatics, software development, HPC and cloud services to the life sciences community. As part of our growing team, the Communications Administrative Assistant will help strengthen C3G’s visibility by managing its website, social media, and communication tools. Reporting to the Research Officer/Administrative Team Lead, this person will coordinate and produce communication materials for C3G and its major initiatives, including the Pan-Canadian Genome Library (PCGL) and Secure Data for Health (SD4H). They will contribute to the development and implementation of communication strategies, ensure consistent branding, and support promotion of C3G’s services, achievements, and events.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and carry out day-to-day communications activities to support the C3G core facility and its major initiatives, including PCGL and SD4H, in alignment with established goals and priorities.
  • Support the development of a unified communication strategy that supports the goals of the platform and its key initiatives.
  • Help write and share content for websites, newsletters, social media, and other materials like reports, videos, and presentations. Make sure the information is clear, accurate, and matches the organization’s style.
  • Design and produce various promotional materials such as brochures, banners, posters, and other print and digital assets.
  • Support the updates and upkeep of the C3G, PCGL, and SD4H websites by checking that content is current, easy to read, and follows the organization’s branding.
  • Support the planning and delivery of communication activities related to events, workshops, and webinars, including the preparation of targeted materials for specific audiences.
  • Review information, draft and edit written content such as short articles, biographies, media content, and bibliographic notes. 
  • Verify facts to ensure accuracy and credibility of the information. 
  • Edit and proofread documents in various stages of production. 
  • Compile and format statistical data for inclusion in reports and public materials. Regularly update key documents and content across platforms.
  • Respond to media inquiries or direct them to the appropriate contacts when necessary.

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities

  • Some experience supporting the development and delivery of communication activities or campaigns.

  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills with the ability to translate complex information into clear and engaging content for diverse audiences.

  • Strong digital communication skills, including website management (e.g., WordPress), social media platforms (e.g., Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, YouTube), and email marketing tools (e.g., Mailchimp, Envoke).

  • Experience with visual communication tools (e.g., Canva) and multimedia content creation (e.g., basic video editing) is an asset.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative and cross-cultural environment.

  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

  • Demonstrate sensitivity and adaptability in communicating across cultural contexts.

  • Ability to work independently and proactively.

  • Proficiency in both French and English.
