JOB SUMMARY:
The Test Driver supports product development, system validation, post-release monitoring, and customer-facing activities by conducting real-world vehicle testing of Stoneridge systems and software. This role represents the professional driver perspective (“voice of the customer”) to engineering teams and ensures products perform safely, reliably, and as intended in real-life operating conditions.
The Test Driver operates and maintains test vehicles, installs and removes prototype and test systems, collects and documents test data, and supports engineering investigations, demonstrations, and customer events. This position requires a high level of professionalism, autonomy, and compliance with all applicable U.S. federal and state transportation regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Vehicle Testing & Validation
- Perform functional, development, validation, and post-release testing of Stoneridge systems and software on test and customer vehicles.
- Execute test driving per defined test plans and specifications; provide detailed observations and feedback from an experienced driver perspective.
- Support testing across varied real-world conditions, including seasonal, geographic, and environmental scenarios.
- Represent the driver point of view and customer use cases to product development and engineering teams.
Data Collection & Reporting
- Collect, log, and manage test data as directed by engineering teams.
- Document test results, system performance, safety observations, and issues using approved tools and processes.
- Participate in test plan definition, problem investigation, and root-cause analysis with cross-functional teams.
- Provide timely, clear, and constructive feedback to improve product design and usability.
Vehicle & System Support
- Act as owner of assigned test vehicles; ensure vehicles are maintained in optimal, safe, and representative condition.
- Install, configure, remove, and support prototype and test systems on vehicles.
- Coordinate vehicle inspections, maintenance, and safety records.
- Arrange temporary or specialized test vehicles when required (e.g., specific OEMs, configurations or applications).
Customer & Company Representation
- Support system demonstrations, trade shows, customer events, and on-site customer testing activities.
- Represent Stoneridge and its products with a high level of professionalism, technical credibility, and safety awareness.
- Collaborate effectively with internal teams, customers, partners, and fleet representatives.
Compliance & Safety
- Maintain full compliance with U.S. DOT and state regulations, including Hours of Service (HOS), and vehicle safety requirements.
- Always ensure safety on and around test vehicles.
- Complete required background checks, certifications, and training.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational education preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of commercial driving experience required.
- Experience operating commercial vehicles up to and including Class 8 tractor-trailer.
- Experience supporting vehicle testing, validation, or prototype evaluation preferred.
Licenses & Certifications
- Valid U.S. Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required.
- Acceptable CSA score and clean driving record.
- Ability to pass background check and applicable drug/alcohol screening.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong mechanical and technical aptitude; hands-on mentality.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while following defined guidelines.
- Disciplined, thorough, and safety-focused work approach.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate in a global, cross-functional team.
- Proficient computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook); experience with test or issue-tracking tools (e.g., JIRA) is a plus.
- Flexible, adaptive, and resourceful; comfortable with travel and variable schedules.
Physical & Work Environment
- Majority of time spent driving or working in and around commercial vehicles.
- Ability to climb into/out of vehicles, install/remove equipment, and perform inspections.
- Extended driving periods and occasional overnight travel required.
Autonomy & Responsibility
- Operates with a high degree of independence during testing activities.
- Makes quality related decisions within defined scope of responsibility.
- Trusted to handle sensitive product development information with discretion.

This role is based in Novi, Michigan and supports U.S. and global engineering initiatives for Stoneridge.
