About this opportunity:

Cenovus is seeking a Commercial Staff Engineer for our Toledo refinery. This roles plays a leadership role in providing best-in-class commercial expertise to continuously improve the profitability and business performance of the Toledo Refinery by interfacing daily with the refinery commercial team and downstream commercial team. This position will provide recommendations into the Planning and Scheduling team priorities, objectives, processes and strategic direction. They will bring focus to optimization opportunities, lead the development of long-term strategic plans in support of both turnarounds, volume plans and strategic investments and initiatives.

What you’ll do:

  • Drive value by enhancing the commercial acumen of the Planning & Scheduling team through mentoring, training, and fostering collaboration between Planning, Asset, Operations, and Business Development teams.

  • Lead development and communication of the annual refinery Long Range Plan (LRP) and 10-year TAR plan to maximize gross margin while minimizing operational constraints.

  • Own, Develop, implement, and continuously improve LP, MRP/LRP, and other hydrocarbon planning processes to achieve best-in-class outcomes.

  • Serve as the commercial lead for optimization across refineries, supporting cross-site opportunities such as shared inventories, crude swaps, product exchanges, and integrated supply strategies.

  • Develop and communicate plans for refinery outages and TAR events, optimizing gross margin while minimizing operational impacts.

  • Provide support to commercial crude and product schedulers and backfill for the refinery in-month planner and other commercial roles as needed.

Who you are:

  • Legally authorized to work in the US

  • College degree required; Chemical Engineering degree ideal.

  • 12+ years of experience in oil and gas or chemical manufacturing facilities, in both technical and commercial settings.

  • Broad Commercial experience. Expertise on crude supply logistics and trading, product marketing and logistics, and deep understanding of refinery economics.

  • Expertise in both running and interpreting results from an LP.

  • Ability to understand the commercial complexity of a refinery as well as direct organizations to optimize assets.
