Position Summary

The Portfolio Manager III provides analytical, underwriting, and portfolio management support for commercial and business banking. The role partners with commercial bankers to perform independent analysis of creditworthiness, prepare credit write-ups, monitor assigned portfolios, and support clients through the lending process. The Portfolio Manager III works on moderate to high-complexity credits with minimal supervision on complex deals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare moderate to high-complexity credit analyses on commercial loans that facilitate the credit approval process for use by loan officers or committees on new, renewal, and extension loans.
  • Perform initial screening and underwriting of new lending opportunities developed by the commercial banker.
  • Prepare memoranda and facilitate the underwriting of new transactions and/or renewals.
  • Prepare cash flow models for credit decisions.
  • Analyze information statements and related material; prepare summaries and present facts concerning credit-worthiness.
  • Analyze factors such as income growth, margins, trends, quality of management, market shares, industry risk, and collateral appraisals.
  • Provide support of loan officers and managers through financial statement spreading and analysis of new loan requests and existing credit relationships.
  • Submit credit approval documents and write-ups to appropriate personnel for decision-making.
  • Provide ongoing monitoring of assigned portfolios to ensure asset quality and customer service standards are met.
  • Conduct ongoing portfolio review of past dues, exceptions, and maturing loan reports.
  • Monitor compliance with loan agreements and covenants; spread ongoing required financial statements as received from customers.
  • Report past dues to officer or make contact to collect payment; work with officer to collect items needed for renewal processing.
  • Make appropriate recommendations for monitored accounts; report deteriorating credit situations to officer.
  • Participate in deal discussion meetings between lending personnel, market managers, and credit officers.
  • Assist in the lending and sales process by accompanying lenders on customer and prospect calls when necessary.
  • Work directly with other internal departments, including appraisal services group and loan administration.
  • Work with third-party attorneys for loan documentation preparation (with guidance on complex matters).
  • In some markets, perform in-house appraisals and inspections on collateral.
  • Ensure funding of construction loan disbursements in accordance with bank policy; work closely with borrower, CCFG, title companies, and other third parties; maintain ongoing monitoring and record-keeping.
  • Perform duties with supervision of leadership or assigned senior-level colleague, providing opportunity to develop a thorough understanding of various lending facilities and a variety of companies and industries.
  • Ensure adherence to credit policy, guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure all departmental documents and activities are performed in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures as applicable to this position, including completion of required compliance training.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Education and/or Experience

  • BS/BA Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • 5–10 years prior applicable experience including credit analyst, commercial lender, or portfolio manager.

Computer Skills

  • MS Office programs, with intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Financial spreading software.
  • Familiarity with bank operating systems (e.g., Loan Vantage, Synapsis, Synergy) or equivalent.
