The Role
Leads Pfizer ANZ’s AI-enabled commercial transformation by managing rapid test-and-scale programs, building AI adoption capabilities, coordinating portfolio priorities, and embedding successful approaches across the organization. Advises senior leadership, represents ANZ in global transformation networks, develops high-performing teams, and ensures compliance, governance, budgeting, and operational excellence across Australia and New Zealand.
Summary Generated by Built In
1. Role Summary
The Transformation Lead leads ANZ's AI-enabled commercial transformation. The role is part of the ANZ Commercial Leadership Team and reports directly to the Country President.
The role has two connected parts. First, it runs a disciplined programme of small, fast tests that use AI and data to better reach and serve patients and customers, then scales what works into everyday business practice. Second, it ensures ANZ has the AI skills, tools and ways of working needed to run this model well, rather than relying on isolated pockets of expertise.
This is one of ANZ's most important build roles. ANZ is investing significantly in AI and new commercial approaches ahead of pipeline-driven growth, and this role is accountable for turning that investment into commercial and operational advantage. The Transformation Lead sets the standard for each test, decides what should scale, and keeps the programme moving at pace, while Therapy Area and functional leaders deliver their respective parts.
2. Role Responsibilities
Run the Test-and-Scale Programme
• Set clear criteria for each test before launch: a real commercial idea worth testing and enough data to judge whether it worked.
• Own the system for capturing what each test teaches the business, and ensure those lessons inform future decisions and action.
• Turn successful tests into repeatable approaches that other teams can adopt, separating the drivers of impact from the specific tool or format used, and share learnings with Pfizer's international transformation network.
Build Internal Readiness - AI & Capability
• Lead ANZ's internal AI enablement agenda by identifying where automation and AI can free up time, and how that time can be redirected to higher-value work.
• Act as ANZ's practical authority on AI adoption, helping teams distinguish promising tests from changes ready for funded, operational scale.
• Build the change capability, skills and mindset needed for teams to work this way day to day, in partnership with People Experience and Communications.
Portfolio Coherence & Resourcing
• Give the Country President and Leadership Team a clear, current view of where change initiatives are drawing on the same teams, so trade-offs are made deliberately.
• Ensure lessons from pilots, automation tests and process improvements are applied wherever relevant, rather than rediscovered by each team separately.
International Representation
• Represent ANZ in Pfizer's international network of Transformation Leads, bringing in what works elsewhere and sharing ANZ's learnings.
People and Leadership
• Lead and inspire a high-performing team, creating clarity, accountability and psychological safety.
• Make talent a top priority: attract, develop and retain high-impact colleagues and create visible, meaningful development and succession opportunities.
• Coach colleagues through regular feedback, performance conversations and development planning; sponsor talent into broader Pfizer opportunities.
• Model scientific curiosity, patient focus, commercial discipline and inclusive collaboration across the matrix.
• Build future-ready capability in AI fluency, experimentation design, partnership leadership, analytics and complex portfolio decision-making.
• Support and continually build the Pfizer culture across the ANZ organization.
• Uphold and model Pfizer values and actionable attitudes through visible and inspirational leadership.
Operational Excellence and Compliance
• Ensure all activities comply with Pfizer policies, relevant medicines-industry codes, local laws and governance requirements across Australia and New Zealand.
• Maintain rigorous budget, forecast, risk and performance management in partnership with Finance and relevant governance forums.
• Promote a speak-up culture and ensure adverse events and product complaints are identified and reported in line with corporate procedures.
• Act as a catalyst for responsible AI adoption across the team to improve insight generation, productivity, decision quality and customer impact.
• Simplify end-to-end workflows, remove low-value activity and focus resources on the work that creates the greatest value for patients and the business.
3. Skills and Experience
• University degree in business, marketing, science, pharmacy, health sciences or a related discipline; postgraduate qualification desirable.
• Proven track record leading complex, multi-year transformation or capability-building programs - ideally spanning commercial model design, AI/data-enabled tools, and organisational change.
• Genuine fluency with AI-enabled commercial models (omnichannel engagement, predictive analytics, process automation) - able to shape and prioritise pilots, not just administer them.
• Demonstrated ability to bring structure and a clear roadmap to an evolving, not-yet-fully-defined mandate, and to make credible progress while the model is still being built.
• Proven success building and leading high-performing teams, and influencing outcomes across a complex matrix without always holding direct authority.
• Strong external and internal storytelling and communication capability - able to build organisational belief in a multi-year change agenda.
• Demonstrated ability to partner across functions and with regional/global teams within a matrix organization.
• Visible, inclusive and enterprise-minded leadership with a bias for action and a strong commitment to integrity.
4. Key Relationships
• Direct Reports: Lifecycle Lead, Experimentation & Evidence Project Manager
• Key internal partners: Therapy Area Commercial and Medical Leads; Commercial Excellence & Innovation Lead; Execution Leads of individual initiatives; the internal AI-enablement taskforce; Innovation Accelerator pod leads
• Key channel partners: ANZ transformation governance forums (monthly Steering Review); International CMI program office; peer country Transformation Leads
5. Why This Role
A rare opportunity to shape how ANZ competes over the next decade, with a seat on the Commercial Leadership Team, direct access to the Country President, and clear ownership for turning AI and commercial model innovation into results ahead of pipeline-driven growth.
