What’s on offer?

We wish to complement our existing Fulton Hogan Utilities team with an experienced Commercial Manager. In this role, you will provide strategic commercial leadership across multiple concurrent programs across South East Queensland. You will work closely with Program teams and client representatives to ensure robust financial and commercial management, risk control, contract compliance and stakeholder alignment.  

In this role you'll be responsible for:

  • Lead, manage and develop the Commercial, Procurement and Finance functions within a large, integrated regional delivery team, working collaboratively with key customers and internal stakeholders

  • In partnership with the Finance Manager, oversee program-level forecasting, cost control, and variations/claims processes

  • Lead contract negotiations and manage dispute resolution to achieve constructive and commercially sound outcomes

  • Manage and optimise subcontractor commercial performance

  • Ensure compliance with internal processes, governance frameworks and all statutory and contractual requirements

  • Mentor and develop commercial and project controls teams, fostering a high‑performance, customer-focused commercial culture across the programs.

How you'll connect to the role:

  • Tertiary qualification in law, commerce, quantity surveying, construction management, engineering or a related discipline

  • Comprehensive knowledge of commercial activities in construction and/or water programs, including design and construct contracts

  • Strong working knowledge of Australian Standard (AS) contracts and alliance-style contracts

  • Demonstrated commercial acumen with a strong focus on proactive risk identification and mitigation

  • Extensive experience with financial management, including forecasting, cost and margin management, and reporting

  • Demonstrated ability to use a range of techniques to achieve constructive outcomes in contract negotiations, with strong influencing skills and the ability to robustly defend commercial positions where required

  • Thorough understanding of the relationship between head contracts and subcontracts, including guarantees, warranties, insurances and bonds

Skills Required
