PRIMARY FUNCTION

The Commercial Loan Officer is responsible for managing and growing profitable lending relationships for the Bank. The Loan Officer will hold the responsibility of ensuring that goals are met, cultivate business prospects and opportunities that result in new loan and deposit relationships. 
 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Solicits and makes loans to commercial finance clients. 

Responsible for building and maintaining relationships of commercial finance customers. 

Calls on potential or existing customers to develop new business and increase or retain existing business.

Identify and generate leads for new business opportunities; obtain and analyze information concerning their businesses, needs, desires, abilities, and earnings to determine whether a loan may be an acceptable risk. 

Manage a portfolio of loans and lines of credit. Includes but not limited to: analyzing borrowing base certificates, inspecting collateral, reviewing/approving advance requests, monitoring delinquency and risk grading and administration of loan covenants.

Active participation in the loan application process. Including but not limited to: obtaining completed application packages, preparation of an initial loan proposal and diligent follow up on all needed documents as requested by the credit analysis and loan services department. Ensures that necessary documentation is completed, and requests additional data as needed.  

Evaluates the financial condition of the client, the value of pledged collateral, and the client’s management effectiveness and competency.  

Makes decisions on loans and terms if within own lending limits or makes recommendations to a superior.

Understands credit structures for underwriting commercial loans and adheres to Bank policies and procedures.  Analyzes client provided financial information to appropriately underwrite and/or present credit structures for approval for loans/relationships below committee level approval. 

Responsible for final presentation to Loan Committee. 

Monitors the credit quality and data integrity of existing accounts and loans to recognize unfavorable trends and recommends corrective action; recognizes problem loans and bring to Management attention early. 

Reviews and approves DDA accounts and overdraft activity on said accounts.

Reviews note, deed, security agreements, and other documentation that are part of the lending process.

Responsible for managing and reporting on an assigned loan portfolio which will entail but will not be limited to; discussing clients with Senior Management and assisting the Collections Department.

Confers with superiors on difficult or sensitive issues.  

Adhere to the Bank’s credit policies, guidelines, and applicable regulatory requirements. Verifies that assigned accounts conform to contract and policy limits.
 

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business, Economics, or Finance preferred.
Five plus (5+) years lending experience, new business development, deal structuring, underwriting and portfolio management.
Working knowledge or credit analysis, budgeting, and cash flow.
High school diploma or equivalent; college degree preferred.
Computer literate with the ability to utilize all programs including but not limited to: Microsoft Windows, Excel, Outlook, Word, Internet, and specific Bank related software. Abrigo/Sageworks preferred.
Able to multitask while prioritizing responsibilities and tasks.
Strong communication skills.
Effective time management skills.
Strong analytical, problem solving and mathematical skills.
Capable of making decisions and sound judgment as it relates to all client, employee, and Bank matters.
