Business partner the Commercial Team in the pursuit of genuine insight, developing opportunities that will drive profitable growth for EJ whilst maintaining high levels of financial control.
Ernest Jackson is a standalone business with a turnover of circa £26m which manufactures and distributes vitamins and medicated confectionery into the grocery, pharmacy, contract and export channels.
In this role you will:
- Business partnering the commercial leadership team and their reports you will manage and execute aspects of finance planning and performance management process and related financial decisions including the Strategic Plan and Annual Contract planning/forecasting, target development, financial performance reporting/analysis, financial modelling and decision support for £26m Gross Sales, £2.1m Trade Spend, £2m Marketing Spend and £1.1m Overheads. Produce accurate forecasting at brand and customer level and provide analysis on any variances. You will own data collection and verify data integrity
- Manage the financial control of the commercial finance area including posting accruals and pre-payments for monthly reporting. This includes revenue recognition and management of a £2.1m trade spend accrual. Ensure a strong controls and compliance environment in your area of scope and ensure full compliance with our policies
- Be involved in the demand review process through forecast surgeries meetings, running the reports and preparing the financial presentation materials at a channel and product segment level. Ensure an effective dialogue at Consensus and NR meetings through insightful reporting and summarisation of overall business position versus targets
- Regularly review and report on Customer and Product profitability. Conduct analysis on IRI data and customer EPOS data to identify trends, issues, what works and what doesn't & why and propose action plans where necessary.
- Evaluate and challenge promotional activity to deliver profitable growth. Approve promotional spend up to £5k. Pre-approve account plans & JBPs. Post evaluate promotions ran to inform better business decisions.
- Prepare critical financial data and insight that enable perspectives for business strategies and decisions
- Deliver insightful commentary and analysis on actual sales performance at month end. Provide EVA analysis and commentary to senior business leaders.
- Financially model any future NPD. Track and report its progress after launch. Regularly evaluate its success.
- Be a super user of the reporting element of the forecasting system (Forecast Pro), using this to generate reports and analyse demand. Help to ensure system data integrity
- Attend and input into commercial leadership team (CLT) meetings
- Lead projects to improve efficiencies and improvements to ways of working and embrace a mindset of continuous improvement
What you will bring
- Professional accounting qualification (CIMA or ACCA) and a degree in a relevant field.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with a proven ability to engage and influence senior stakeholders across the business.
- Technical expertise in financial analysis and data collection/structuring.
- Business acumen and a basic understanding of our business, consumer packaged goods industry, and local snacking market. Relevant experience in a regional (or sizeable local) business
- Leadership skills including collaboration and good communication skills within a larger Finance team. Team player with can do mentality to deliver results
- Growth/digital mindsets and the ability to execute opportunities and leverage technology to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness
- Confidence to challenge ideas constructively and provide alternative perspectives in a supportive manner.
- Integrity and sound judgement in all decisions and interactions aligned with our values and policies and external regulations
This is a fixed-term contract position, commencing in October and concluding in September 2026, with the possibility of extension.
The role is primarily based at our Crediton site, but we offer a hybrid work arrangement. While we are open to considering a remote work arrangement, the successful candidate will be required to commute to the Crediton site once a month.
