This is a unique opportunity for a commercially astute leader to influence strategy, develop high-performing teams, and play a pivotal role in delivering continued success across the Irish market.

About the role

The Commercial Director is accountable for the commercial performance and day-to-day commercial operation of Covetrus Ireland. This role directly leads the Sales team and the Customer Service (Inside Sales) function and acts as the single point of accountability for driving profitable commercial growth across the Irish business.

The Commercial Director works closely with Operations, Finance, and Purchasing to ensure the business runs smoothly end-to-end, from demand generation through to order fulfilment and customer experience and owns all vendor and supplier commercial relationships on behalf of Covetrus Ireland. This is a hands-on, commercially accountable leadership role reporting into the Ireland leadership team.

Sales Leadership

  • Directly manage and lead the Field Sales team, setting targets, territories, and performance standards.
  • Own the sales pipeline and forecasting process, and hold the team accountable to revenue, margin, and growth targets.
  • Coach, develop, and performance-manage Sales team members, building capability and succession within the team.
  • Identify and convert new business opportunities across distribution, technology, and equipment categories.

Customer Service & Inside Sales Management

  • Directly manage the Customer Service (Inside Sales) team, ensuring order accuracy, responsiveness, and service levels meet agreed KPIs.
  • Drive a proactive, sales-oriented culture within Inside Sales, converting inbound contact into commercial opportunity where appropriate.
  • Resolve escalated customer issues and ensure consistent, high-quality customer experience across all channels.
  • Align Inside Sales processes and systems with the wider Field Sales strategy to ensure one commercial voice to the customer.

Vendor & Supplier Relationship Management

  • Own all commercial vendor relationships for Covetrus Ireland, including trading terms, rebates, promotional funding, and range reviews.
  • Negotiate and manage vendor agreements to maximise commercial value while protecting service continuity.
  • Act as the primary escalation point for vendor performance issues, working with Purchasing to resolve supply, pricing, or service conflicts.
  • Represent Covetrus Ireland in vendor business reviews and joint business planning sessions.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner closely with Operations to ensure order flow, fulfilment, and logistics support commercial commitments made to customers.
  • Work with Finance on pricing, margin management, credit control, and commercial reporting to ensure profitable growth.
  • Collaborate with Purchasing on stock availability, supplier terms, and range strategy that support commercial priorities.
  • Act as a key member of the Ireland leadership team, contributing to broader business planning beyond the commercial function.

Commercial Growth & Strategy

  • Develop and execute the annual commercial growth plan for Covetrus Ireland, in line with wider Covetrus strategy.
  • Identify market, category, and customer segment opportunities to expand share of wallet and new customer acquisition.
  • Monitor competitor activity and market dynamics, adjusting commercial strategy accordingly.
  • Report on commercial performance, risks, and opportunities to the Ireland leadership team and wider Covetrus stakeholders.

About you

  • Proven track record in a senior commercial leadership role, ideally within distribution, veterinary, healthcare, or a related B2B sector.
  • Demonstrated experience directly managing both field sales and customer service/inside sales teams.
  • Strong track record of vendor/supplier negotiation and relationship management at a commercial level.
  • Commercially numerate, with experience owning P&L, margin, and growth targets.
  • Ability to operate effectively cross-functionally with Operations, Finance, and Purchasing.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Full clean driving licence and willingness to travel across Ireland as required.
