Who are PortSwigger

PortSwigger exists to enable the world to secure the web. We build the tools practitioners trust, the knowledge that trains security professionals, and a community that makes anyone who cares about security better — so anyone can make the internet safer. Our products are crafted with care, backed by deep research, and we lead through generous innovation: winning by setting the bar higher and sharing what we create, turning commercial success into wider positive impact.

Our culture didn't happen by accident — it was built deliberately, and it's something we protect with the same care we put into everything we make. We default to trust — brilliant people doing brilliant work, free from micromanagement. We aim for excellence, and we do it with care; performance and compassion go hand in hand. Joy, mastery and purpose belong together here — and if the work stops feeling good, we take that seriously.

The Finance tribe keeps PortSwigger commercially healthy and future-fit. Beyond core accounting, compliance, planning and analysis, we're the guardians of commercial performance and the enablers of strategic investment — providing robust financial controls, accurate reporting and risk stewardship so the business can scale with confidence. We partner closely with Product, Growth and Technology to turn data into clear commercial insight: forecasting and scenario planning that surface opportunities, guide investment in product and people, and give leaders the information they need to make timely, high-quality decisions.

RequirementsWhat you'll be doingThis isn't a traditional Data Science role—and that's exactly what makes it interesting.

You won't spend your time building machine learning models, responding to dashboard requests or optimising algorithms in isolation. Instead, you'll apply mathematical thinking, analytical reasoning and AI-enabled analytical techniques to solve some of the business's most important commercial questions.

You'll become the analytical partner to our go-to-market organisation, working closely with Sales, Marketing and Customer Success to help answer the questions that matter most to the business. Rather than receiving predefined requests, you'll be trusted to frame problems, decide the right analytical approach and provide recommendations that influence strategic decisions.

You might find yourself investigating questions such as:

  • Why are deals dropping out of our sales pipeline?
  • Which activities are driving customer growth, retention and long-term value?
  • How should we approach pricing for a new product?
  • Which customer behaviours indicate future commercial opportunity or risk?

As part of our Decision Intelligence team, you'll work alongside our Data Engineering capability, using trusted data foundations to improve how decisions are made across the organisation. You'll also help shape how AI-enabled analytical work evolves at PortSwigger, investigating how AI can help us explore complex business problems more effectively while ensuring human judgement remains central. By combining AI with critical thinking, you'll improve the quality, speed and impact of decision-making.

Responsibilities
  • Partner with Sales, Marketing and Customer Success to solve commercially important business problems.
  • Lead analytical investigations across customer growth, commercial performance and strategic initiatives.
  • Translate ambiguous business questions into structured analytical approaches.
  • Apply mathematical thinking, statistical reasoning and analytical judgement to uncover meaningful insight.
  • Use AI to accelerate data exploration, hypothesis generation, SQL/Python workflows and analysis while critically evaluating every output.
  • Combine multiple data sources to identify trends, risks and commercial opportunities.
  • Present clear, actionable recommendations that influence senior stakeholders and strategic decisions.
  • Build trusted relationships across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Develop frameworks and approaches that strengthen Decision Intelligence across the organisation.
  • Foster a culture of curiosity, experimentation and evidence-based decision making.
RequirementsEssential
  • Experience applying analytical thinking to solve commercially meaningful business problems.
  • Strong mathematical reasoning and the ability to work confidently with uncertainty and ambiguity.
  • Experience partnering with stakeholders across Sales, Marketing, Customer Success, Product or other commercial functions.
  • Ability to translate complex analysis into clear recommendations that influence business decisions.
  • Strong judgement around data quality, assumptions and decision-making.
  • Experience using AI to enhance analytical workflows while critically evaluating AI-generated outputs.
  • Comfortable working autonomously and building trusted relationships with senior stakeholders.
  • Intellectual curiosity and a genuine desire to understand not just what is happening, but why.
Desirable
  • Experience within B2B, SaaS or subscription businesses.
  • Experience working on growth, commercial, customer or revenue analytics.
  • SQL and/or Python capability.
  • Experience analysing customer acquisition, retention, pricing or sales pipeline performance.
  • Experience improving analytical capability or decision-making within an organisation.
  • Experience working within scaling or transforming businesses.
Why this role is different

Data Scientists are often brought in once the business has already decided what it wants to know.

This role is different.

You'll partner directly with senior leaders across Sales, Marketing and Customer Success, helping shape the questions before the analysis even begins. Rather than producing reports or building models in isolation, you'll use mathematical thinking, analytical reasoning and AI-enabled investigation to influence commercial decisions that shape how PortSwigger grows.

You'll have genuine ownership of the commercial domain analytics, becoming the trusted analytical partner to our go-to-market teams and helping answer some of the business's most important strategic questions.

You'll also join at a pivotal moment. As part of our growing Decision Intelligence capability, you'll help define how AI, data and human judgement come together to improve decision-making across the organisation. The frameworks, approaches and ways of working you establish won't just solve today's problems—they'll shape how analytical work is done across PortSwigger for years to come.

If you're excited by solving ambiguous commercial problems, influencing senior stakeholders and using AI to make analytical work smarter—not simply faster—you'll find plenty to get stuck into here.

Benefits
