Profound is on a mission to help companies understand and control their AI presence. As our first in-house Commercial Counsel, you’ll be the legal backbone of our sales motion—responsible for reviewing, redlining, and negotiating contracts with a wide variety of customers and partners. You’ll work closely with Sales and Leadership to keep deals moving while protecting Profound’s interests.
What You’ll DoReview, redline, and negotiate a high volume of outbound commercial agreements (including MSAs, DPAs, order forms, NDAs, and related documents)
Serve as the primary legal point of contact for Sales—helping enable deals while managing risk
Collaborate with external counsel and internal stakeholders (Product, Engineering, etc.) to resolve escalations or complex terms
Develop and maintain contract templates, playbooks, and fallback positions to improve velocity and consistency
Monitor evolving data privacy, AI, and IP regulations, and translate them into actionable guidance
A commercial generalist with 2–5 years of legal experience, ideally with B2B SaaS contracts
Comfortable owning the redline process end-to-end with minimal oversight
Pragmatic and business-minded—you understand how to manage legal risk without slowing deals down
Exceptional communicator who can explain legal issues clearly to non-lawyers
Licensed to practice law in the U.S.
Bonus: Experience working in-house at a high-growth startup or with AI/data-centric products
This is an on-site role in our Union Square office — designed for builders who thrive on speed, iteration, and impact.
For this role, the expected base salary range is $150,000 – $250,000. Profound’s total compensation package is designed to be competitive and includes base salary, equity, and a full range of benefits and perks. Final compensation will depend on factors such as your skills, experience, qualifications, and location, and will be determined during the interview process.
