About the team
Stripe is looking for a marketing lawyer to join our growing legal team. This role will provide dedicated legal support to Stripe’s Marketing, Communications, and Design organizations and be instrumental in maturing and scaling Stripe’s legal support frameworks for these client groups.

The ideal candidate is passionate about Stripe’s mission of helping businesses grow and thrives in solving complex legal, technology, and business issues in collaboration with others. We’re looking for someone who is a team player and willing to jump in on tasks of any size. Experience in financial technology, payments, and/or financial services is helpful, but not required, for you to be successful in this role.
Responsibilities
- Provide legal counsel to the Marketing organization on a broad range of issues, including marketing materials’ compliance with applicable laws and Stripe policies.
- Draft and negotiate complex commercial and licensing agreements related to marketing, advertising, events, communications, and content creation.
- Help ensure Stripe’s commercial engagements, CRM practices, and external communications comply with global privacy frameworks and internal Stripe policies.
- Use sound judgment to advise on time-sensitive escalations in support of the Marketing organization’s ambitious brand and consumer marketing goals.
- Identify and execute scaling and standardization opportunities. Proactively lead projects to improve internal processes and operational efficiency.
- Draft and maintain template documents, playbooks, training materials, and other shared resources.
- Collaborate effectively with partner teams across Stripe, including Product Legal, Consumer Legal, Privacy Legal, Procurement, and Third Party Risk Management.
- Manage outside counsel.
Who you are

Minimum requirements
- 6+ years of relevant marketing legal experience in-house, at a creative agency, or in a marketing practice group at a law firm reviewing, drafting, and negotiating a range of marketing and advertising contract types.
- Deep understanding of industry-specific contract terms, governing frameworks (e.g. IAB), and commercial contracting practices specific to marketing and adtech.
- Subject matter expertise necessary to effectively review content for compliance with laws and policies and advise on US-based and global marketing legal issues.
- A working knowledge of data protection frameworks such as CCPA and GDPR and their applicability to sponsored events, CRM practices, and vendor/agency relationships.
- A proactive approach to identifying opportunities for improvement and a passion for improving operational efficiency.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and adeptness at collaborating effectively with cross-functional colleagues.
- A strong sense of ownership and willingness to tackle tasks with enthusiasm and resourcefulness. Ability to effectively prioritize and advance multiple concurrent deals, often under tight deadlines.
- Good judgment and ability to make sound decisions in uncertain situations with imperfect information.
- Humility, curiosity about the evolving payments industry, and a terrific sense of humor.
Preferred qualifications
- In-house experience advising a high-growth company.
- Familiarity with the IAB (Interactive Advertising Bureau) framework and terms, SAG-AFTRA content licensing norms, and IP and licensing best practices for creative works.
