What will you do as a Commercial & Business Development Manager?

As a Commercial & Business Development Manager, you will be responsible for developing and driving new business (growth) opportunities and projects from initial customer contact throughout project realisation.

You will be reporting to the country managing director based in Tokyo and collaborating with your colleagues in Singapore and the Netherlands. You will also be leading the commercial discussions for Vopak Japan with customers as well as external partners and stakeholders for existing and new terminal infrastructure projects.

What do we expect from you as a Commercial & Business Development Manager?

  • Bachelor's degree; MBA is preferred 

  • Thorough understanding of financial concepts and contractual legal frameworks  

  • Minimum of 7 years commercial and business development experience in the petroleum, petrochemical sector or associated industries 

  • Experience in leading and managing a team of sales and/or business development professionals 

  • Knowledge of local market and regulatory conditions in the petroleum and/or  petrochemical as well as new energy sectors are a plus

  • Experience working with (international) customers in business-to-business environment 

  • Ability to influence and negotiate; prioritize, meet deadlines; multi task ∙ 

  • Proven track record of successful business development and project management 

Your core responsibilities are:

  • Identifies growth opportunities with existing and new customers and markets with a focus on Vopak’s strategic pillars Accelerate and Growth

  • Develops and manages key projects and transactions, which may involve alliances, collaborations, mergers and acquisitions, in- and out-licensing initiatives and other activities

  • Oversees and leads all business opportunities and related capital investment projects

  • Drives and manages all commercial contract negotiations. Closely coordinates the business development progress with other key functions, i.e., engineering, operations, SHE,  legal, finance and taxes

  • Coordinates and manages a team of commercial/BD managers providing guidance, support, and mentoring to drive high performance and achievement of targets

  • Understands the needs, desires and requirements of the customer and translates those into tangible value propositions and new business (terminal) opportunities

  • Has the ability to communicate and present comprehensive business solutions to external stakeholders

  • Manages, builds and develops meaningful relationships with customers and internal /  external stakeholders; represents the assigned location within a regional commercial  group and contributes to the regional business objectives

  • Understands and develops market intelligence related to local product markets,  customers and competitors and coordinates internal and external resources 

  • Delivers project, financial and investment forecasting, reports and contributes to  periodical budget cycles; monitors and adjusts commercial performance  

  • Prepares and communicates relevant commercial and service developments to regional and global senior management 

  • Leads and manages internal approval processes and procedures for commercially driven capital investment projects in accordance with Vopak Project Management framework 

  • Ensures the Vopak CRM system is up-to-date at all times with regard to customer,  market, competition, commercial development, etc. information in assigned areas

  • Ensures all proposals and final contracts are in compliance with relevant regulations  and company standards; manages contracts throughout their life-cycle
