Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Commercial & Business Development Manager to lead commercial growth and business development activities across our marine logistics and offshore service business. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying and converting new business opportunities, developing strategic client relationships, managing commercial proposals and tenders, supporting vessel chartering and deployment strategies, and providing market intelligence to Management.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience within the Nigerian maritime or oil & gas sector, an established industry network, proven business development and contract acquisition experience, strong commercial acumen and a demonstrable track record of converting market opportunities into profitable business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and develop new business opportunities within the industry, build and maintain a strong pipeline of prospective clients, projects and contract opportunities and identify opportunities to increase market share.
  • Monitor the market, competitors, clients, vessel activity and market developments and provide regular market analysis and acquisition intelligence to Management.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective clients and relevant marine/offshore stakeholders, continuously engage clients to identify current and future vessel requirements and opportunities.
  • Identify and pursue contract acquisition opportunities. Coordinate the preparation, review and timely submission of major tenders and commercial proposals and work with relevant internal functions to ensure competitive and commercially sound submissions.
  • Support and implement vessel chartering and deployment strategies, identify suitable opportunities for owned and third-party vessels, coordinate deployment following contract award and maximize vessel utilization and commercial opportunities.
  • Evaluate commercial opportunities, support pricing and commercial negotiations, monitor commercial performance and profitability, and ensure commercial requests and opportunities are addressed within required timelines.
  • Develop and execute business development initiatives, expand business with existing clients, develop new client accounts and convert identified opportunities into viable and profitable contracts.
  • Provide regular reports to the Managing Director on business development activities, acquisition opportunities, tender activity, client engagements, market developments, vessel deployment opportunities and commercial performance.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Economics, Engineering, Marine Transport, Maritime Studies, Marine Engineering, Logistics or other relevant discipline. MBA or Master’s degree is advantageous.
  • Professional certifications in business development, commercial management, marketing, maritime studies or other maritime related fields is an advantage.
  • Minimum of 10-12 years’ professional experience in commercial management, business development, sales, chartering or a related function, with at least 7 years within the marine, shipping, maritime logistics, offshore or oil & gas industry and at least 5 years leading commercial, business development or marketing teams.
  • Proven experience managing NipeX tenders and IOC procurement processes.
  • Demonstrable success in vessel chartering, offshore logistics, or marine service commercialization
  • Strong network within NNPC entities, IOC procurement organizations, NCDMB, NipeX and major offshore operators.
  • Established relationships with relevant industry clients and stakeholders.
  • Proven experience in business development and securing new business.
  • Experience in commercial negotiations and contract acquisition.
  • Demonstrable experience in market analysis and competitor intelligence.

Skills Required
