If you’re an Assistant Accountant or Management Accountant with sharp analytical skills and a passion for turning numbers into meaningful business insight, this is your chance to step into a true Commercial Accountant role - one with real impact, visibility, and influence.
At WM New Zealand Technical Services (TS), we lead the country in hazardous and medical waste management. Our work is complex, high‑risk and critically important to protecting people and the environment.
Now, we’re looking for someone who’s ready to move beyond transactional accounting and into a commercial role that partners directly with the business - analysing costs, shaping pricing models, and uncovering opportunities for efficiency and growth.
If you thrive in fast‑paced environments like logistics, transport or manufacturing, and you’re ready for a meaningful step up, this could be your perfect next move.
Job DescriptionAs our Commercial Accountant, you’ll work closely with operations, commercial teams, and leadership to provide financial insights that directly influence divisional performance.
This is a role where your curiosity, critical thinking and commercial mindset will shine - and where you’ll develop the capability to grow into more senior commercial roles.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Partnering with operational leaders to deliver financial insights that influence business decisions
- Conducting deep‑dive cost analysis (allocation, volume, profit, customer profitability, lifecycle impact)
- Designing and modelling pricing strategies across customers, services and segments
- Supporting budgeting, forecasting and performance tracking for the division
- Improving reporting visibility, processes and commercial insight
- Building service and tender pricing models to support commercial bids and contract negotiations
To succeed in this role, you’ll bring:
- 2-3 years’ experience in management or operational accounting (ideally in logistics, transport or manufacturing)
- Advanced Excel skills (Power BI / Power Query a strong advantage)
- CA/CPA qualified or working toward it
- Strong time management and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Confidence engaging with non‑financial stakeholders
- A curious, analytical mindset with strong numerical accuracy and pace
- Bonus: Studies or exposure to Chemistry or Chemical Engineering - great for understanding our technical environment
This is an ideal stepping‑stone for someone ready to grow from Assistant Accountant into a commercially focused accounting role.
