Job Description and Responsibilities
We are seeking a qualified Commercial Account Representative for our Interpro Recycling team to support our Regina, Winnipeg, and Thunder Bay operations. In this role, you will be responsible for the procurement of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap materials to support the Company’s recycling and steel manufacturing operations. You will develop strategic supplier relationships, negotiate pricing and purchasing agreements, monitor commodity markets, and coordinate logistics to ensure a safe, reliable, and cost-effective supply of quality scrap.
The Commercial Account Representative will work closely with Operations, Transportation, Accounting, Quality, Yard Management, Regional Managers, and Mill Buyers to develop and execute purchasing strategies that optimize total delivered cost while meeting production requirements and supporting business objectives. This role reports to the Director of Material Purchasing.
- Source and purchase ferrous and non-ferrous scrap from new and existing suppliers to support business growth, production requirements, and continuity of supply
- Develop and manage supplier relationships, including identifying new business opportunities, evaluating supplier performance, and maintaining strong commercial partnerships
- Negotiate pricing, contracts, purchasing agreements, and commercial terms to maximize value, profitability, and supply reliability
- Monitor and analyze scrap markets, including regional, national, and international trends, pricing, and market conditions, to support purchasing strategies and forecasts
- Develop and execute purchasing strategies and plans based on market conditions, inventory levels, production requirements, material costs, freight, and total delivered cost
- Coordinate material quality and inbound logistics, working with suppliers, trucking and rail providers, and internal teams to ensure timely delivery of quality material that meets operational requirements
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Regional and Yard Managers, Mill Buyers, Operations, Transportation, Accounting, and Quality to resolve issues and ensure efficient material flow
- Maintain procurement records and compliance, using ERP and scrap-management systems while ensuring purchasing activities meet company, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements; travel regularly to maintain supplier and business relationships
Requirements
- Minimum five (5) years of experience in business development, commodity trading, customer service, scrap buying, procurement, or related experience within the metals recycling, steel manufacturing, or industrial materials industry.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Sales, Marketing, Finance, or a related field; equivalent combinations of education and relevant experience will be considered.
- Experience in scrap/metals procurement and commercial activities, including market research, commodity forecasting, cost and freight analysis, negotiating commercial agreements, supplier management, and contract administration
- Experience with ERP and/or scrap management software and working collaboratively within an industrial, manufacturing, or supply chain environment.
- Strong knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap grades, commodity markets, purchasing practices, and transportation logistics
- Strong commercial skills, including negotiation, supplier relationship management, contract administration, and sound business decision-making
- Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships and collaborate across functions
- High degree of initiative and ability to work independently with minimal supervision while contributing effectively to cross-functional teams
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and ERP and/or scrap management software; valid driver’s license and willingness to travel 25%–50% throughout the assigned territory
