Job Summary
BAE Systems, one of the world's largest defense contractors and a stable Fortune 500 company, is seeking a full-time Technical Manual Developer to review, develop and coordinate development of Logistics Management Information (LMI) and Technical Manuals for combat vehicle Operator and Maintainer Technical Manuals. This position is based out of Sterling Heights, Michigan.
In this fast-paced, dynamic position, the ideal candidate will be well organized and able to work multiple projects and platforms, have direct knowledge and experience with combat vehicle troubleshooting (mechanical, electronic, and software related). The candidate will be able to demonstrate their knowledge and translate that into a simple, technically accurate process that others can follow. This position requires direct work and effective communication with Logistics' internal and external customers in order to accomplish project goals and meet deadlines. As such, the candidate must be a professional individual who is able to work with a diverse team of individuals as well as independently within that team. The candidate will need to be able to work directly on the Logistics technical manual development, review existing technical manuals (interactive or electronic) for the combat vehicles, and provide concise input on what is needed to improve or correct the product. The candidate will also promote commonality across platform products, working directly with the Logistics Commonality Project Leads and passing information to the programs and functions as appropriate.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Directly supports development of LMI, Maintenance, and Troubleshooting products and deliverables to include technical manuals, parts manuals, schematics/diagrams, etc.
- Reviews engineering drawings, vendor drawings and electrical schematics, provides updates and corrections to Logistics and/or engineering products.
- Works directly with vendors to obtain required technical data and information to produce technical manuals for combat vehicles.
- Ensures combat vehicles are supported correctly at various levels of maintenance and based on soldier capabilities, tool availability, and parts availability. Provides feedback on actions to take across functions when vehicle is not supported correctly.
- Leads and/or Participates in Logistics Test Events with internal/external customers to validate and verify Logistics product content, including planning of fault insertion points and methods, task performance, and required corrections or updates.
- Works directly on and within the vehicle, sometimes in limited space, using tools, special tools and test equipment, digital multimeters, on-board/automated diagnostic software to develop platform technical manuals.
- Provides regular and accurate updates to the programs and other stakeholders regarding status, accomplishments, risk and risk mitigation efforts.
- Attends and participates in program/Integrated Product Team (IPT) meetings as needed (logistics, engineering, software, Diagnostics and Health Management), working with internal/external customers, providing platform knowledge and developing relationships with key personnel to accomplish project goals.
- Influences design of vehicle systems to improve supportability of vehicle platforms and supports integration of Logistics products on vehicle platforms, as needed.
- Promotes commonality across programs when possible, working with the commonality and SME teams to provide information on what other programs are doing, provides direction on reuse of common system or component troubleshooting.
- Supports development of Basis of Estimates (BOEs) in response to Request for Proposals (RFPs).
- Provides input to Logistics' Business Management Systems (BMS) processes.
- Promotes a safe, inclusive, and ethical work environment.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
Bachelor's degree and 2 years of experience in a military or defense environment; or relevant Associate's degree and 5 years of experience in a military or defense environment; or relevant diagnostics and troubleshooting experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
Knowledge of combat vehicle maintenance and parts manuals, diagnostics (automated/analog/mechanical) and maintenance concepts to include preventative maintenance, intermediate experience with Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Excel, strong interpersonal skills, ability to read engineering drawings, system schematics (e.g., electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic).
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
Experience writing operator and maintenance manuals to Military Standards (e.g., Mil-Std-40051-1/2) Army Regulations (AR 750-1, AR 700-127). Experience working on government contracts, government personnel, sub-contractors, and third-party vendors.
Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $95106 - $161680
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
