College Clinical Intern - LPC (52692)

The Family Place empowers survivors of family violence by providing safe housing, counseling, and skills that create independence while building community engagement and advocating for social change to stop family violence.

Position Summary:

In this position as a Counseling Student Intern, you will gain hands-on clinical experience providing trauma-informed, survivor-centered counseling to youth and adults who have experienced family or domestic violence under the direct supervision of a licensed professional (LPC, LCSW, or equivalent). 

You'll conduct intake assessments to establish safety plans and identify case management needs, facilitate psychoeducation groups for domestic violence survivors, provide weekly individual therapy, and participate in case consultation and peer review within a supportive learning environment. This internship fulfills Master's-level clinical field placement requirements for Counseling and Clinical Social Work programs while allowing you to develop core clinical competencies in a specialized population. Work collaboratively with case managers and support staff to ensure comprehensive, coordinated care for your assigned caseload while maintaining accurate, confidential records and documenting hours in compliance with agency and funder requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Services

• Conduct in-person intake assessments to establish safety plans, identify case management needs, advocacy needs, and readiness for therapeutic services.
• Provide weekly individual therapy to adult and/or youth survivors of violence.
• Facilitate psycho-education groups for victims of domestic violence.
• Work collaboratively to ensure appropriate case management for assigned caseload.

Documentation & Compliance

• Maintain accurate and confidential records for each client assigned to caseload.
• Document hours in a timely manner in accordance with agency and funder requirements.

Professional Development & Supervision

• Attend required weekly individual and/or group supervision sessions, participating in peer reviews and case consultations.
• Attend New Intern Orientation prior to beginning internship placement.
• Participate in professional development and learning opportunities as required by agency and funder guidelines.
• Assist in developing group materials and clinical resources as needed.

Other Duties

• Maintain work schedule as required by program needs with adequate flexibility.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

• Currently enrolled in an accredited Master's degree program in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Counseling Psychology, or Clinical Social Work.
• Clear criminal background check and negative drug screening.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Basic knowledge of trauma, domestic violence dynamics, crisis intervention, and safety planning.   

• Knowledge of MS Office, including Word and Outlook. 

• Ability to maintain confidentiality. 

• Ability to work compassionately with clients, demonstrating strong empathy and active listening skills.  

• Ability to work with individuals from varied backgrounds.  

• Ability to work at least two consistent evenings per week.  

Mental and Physical Abilities: 

Ability to perform physical tasks such as stooping, reaching, bending, and climbing to interact with clients, including children, with the ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.  

Working Conditions: 

All work must be performed at the office due to client confidentiality. Duties are usually performed seated with occasional periods of standing or walking. Work may be performed, but is not limited to, an office environment.
