Overview: The U.S. Army’s Holistic Health and Fitness (H2F) System is designed to improve Soldier readiness, resilience, health, and performance across the Total Army. SRI is seeking a Cognitive Performance Specialist to serve as an integrated member of the Maneuver Center of Excellence H2F Implementation Team at Fort Eustis, Virginia. The CPS will use expertise in cognitive skills training, mental resiliency, sport psychology, and performance enhancement to train Brigade H2F Performance Teams and Army leaders on H2F doctrine, standardized implementation, lessons learned, and best practices.
The CPS will participate in implementation efforts across the Active Army, Army National Guard, and Army Reserve and will travel approximately 25%–50% of the time to CONUS and occasional OCONUS locations.
Tasks & Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary HIT and Brigade H2F Performance Teams to educate and train personnel on holistic Soldier readiness.
- Provide education and training related to cognitive performance, mental resiliency, team cohesion, and task-specific performance.
- Participate in in-person and virtual pre-implementation planning meetings with HIT and Brigade representatives.
- Develop CPS-specific implementation plans based on unit assessments.
- Conduct pre-implementation research and analysis, including unit data, content requirements, and Brigade culture/history.
- Develop additional or modify existing H2F implementation content based on unit needs, subject to Government approval.
- Attend implementation site visits and deliver standardized H2F implementation instruction.
- Assist Brigade H2F Performance Teams in integrating cognitive-performance programming into unit training schedules, operational requirements, battle rhythms, and culture.
- Participate in post-implementation meetings to reinforce and clarify H2F standards and practices.
- Support virtual H2F implementation efforts for Active Army, Army National Guard, and Army Reserve organizations.
- Participate in periodic HIT meetings and provide specialty-specific implementation reports, recommendations, and feedback.
- Track questions, concerns, comments, and lessons learned from interactions with Brigade H2F Performance Teams and leaders.
- Recommend opportunities for H2F System improvement.
- Educate and train personnel on strategies needed to develop and execute cognitive-enhancement programs in accordance with FM 7-22.
- Provide instruction and guidance to Brigade leadership and H2F Performance Teams regarding cognitive-enhancement programs designed to optimize specific performance.
- Teach strategies for developing cohesive H2F teams and establishing productive relationships with unit leadership.
- Develop and deliver effective classroom and field-based instruction.
- Develop course content of similar scope and complexity.
- Participate in Government-required education and in-service training.
- Maintain required professional certifications and/or licenses.
- Maintain proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, and related systems.
- Travel approximately 25%–50% of the time to implementation sites and other mission requirements.
Qualifications:
- Doctoral degree in Psychology, Human Performance, Kinesiology, Counseling, Counseling Psychology, Coaching Education, Exercise Science, and/or Sport Sciences with a specialization in Sport Psychology.
- Must possess at least one of the professional credentials identified by the PWS:
- License as a psychologist with proficiency in sports psychology as recognized by Division 47 of the American Psychological Association; or
- Certification as a Certified Consultant through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (CC-AASP); or
- Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC); or
- Board Certified Sport Psychologist through the American Board of Sport Psychology.
- Minimum of five years of demonstrable accumulated experience as a mental-performance coach or sport-psychology practitioner working with individual athletes and groups of athletes at the NCAA collegiate, Olympic, professional sports, and/or Service Member level.
- Recent relevant experience is preferred.
- Previous experience in a military environment is preferred.
- Must be able to teach effectively in classroom and field-training settings.
- Must have experience developing course content of similar scope and complexity.
- Must have experience delivering well-facilitated and engaging instruction designed to achieve defined learning outcomes.
- Must demonstrate initiative, interpersonal effectiveness, and the ability to work with Soldiers from diverse backgrounds.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English effectively.
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, and similar applications.
- Must be capable of properly lifting and manipulating loads or weights up to 45 pounds.
- Must be capable of meeting the physical demands of training with Soldiers in varied weather conditions.
- Must be able to hike over rough terrain and function in austere environments while observing Soldier training and providing education, coaching, and mentorship.
- Must maintain all required certifications and/or licenses throughout employment.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Must be willing and able to travel approximately 25%–50% of the time, including occasional OCONUS travel.
Security Clearance Requirements:
No classified security clearance is specified in the PWS. Personnel must be U.S. Citizens and satisfy the applicable Tier 1 background-investigation, installation-access, CAC, identity-verification, and DoD system-access requirements.
Work Schedule:
Work is normally performed Monday through Friday, typically between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., but may vary between approximately 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. based on mission requirements. Hours worked during a two-week period may not exceed 80 hours. Weekend travel may be required.
