Overview: The U.S. Army Reserve (USAR) is implementing the Holistic Health and Fitness (H2F) System to improve Soldier readiness, resilience, and deployability. SRI is seeking a Cognitive Performance Specialist to serve as a member of an interdisciplinary H2F Performance Team supporting the 9th Mission Support Command. The position will be primarily located at Fort Shafter Flats, Honolulu, Hawaii, with recurring travel throughout the Pacific region. The Cognitive Performance Specialist will develop and deliver evidence-based mental readiness and performance psychology programs designed to enhance Soldier performance, resilience, and readiness.

Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop comprehensive mental readiness and cognitive performance training programs.
  • Develop practical mental skills resources, including training materials, guided exercises, and leader discussion guides.
  • Train Soldiers in evidence-based cognitive skills to enhance performance under pressure.
  • Provide training in attention control, goal setting, energy management, stress management, deliberate breathing, mindfulness, visualization, and effective self-talk.
  • Conduct classroom instruction and field-based performance coaching.
  • Integrate cognitive performance skills into relevant military training activities.
  • Coach and assist Master Resilience Trainers and H2F Integrators.
  • Provide technical guidance, advanced skills training, and reach-back support to unit personnel.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary HPT to integrate mental readiness with physical, nutritional, recovery, and injury-prevention activities.
  • Develop command-specific cognitive performance strategies, curricula, educational resources, and program reports.
  • Travel to supported Army Reserve locations throughout the Pacific region as required.

Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or Doctor of Psychology (PsyD).
  • Graduate of an American Psychological Association-accredited college or university with a doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology.
  • Successful completion of an American Psychological Association-accredited psychology internship.
  • Specialized education or experience in sport or performance psychology preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of relevant post-graduate experience within the last four years providing mental skills training and cognitive performance enhancement services to athletes, military personnel, or other high-performing populations.
  • Certification as a Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology highly desired.
  • Current, valid, unrestricted professional license as required for contract performance.
  • Must maintain all required professional credentials, certifications, and licenses throughout employment.
  • Must be willing and able to travel regularly within CONUS and OCONUS locations, including locations throughout the Pacific region.

Security Clearance Requirements:

Secret. Must be a U.S. Citizen and possess or be able to obtain and maintain the required SECRET security clearance/Tier 3 eligibility.

Skills Required

  • PhD or PsyD in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA-accredited institution
  • Completion of an APA-accredited psychology internship
  • At least three years of relevant post-graduate experience within the last four years providing mental skills training or cognitive performance enhancement services
  • Current, valid, unrestricted professional license as required for contract performance
  • Maintain all required professional credentials, certifications, and licenses throughout employment
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly within CONUS and OCONUS locations, including the Pacific region
  • U.S. citizenship
  • Possess or be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance or Tier 3 eligibility
  • Specialized education or experience in sport or performance psychology
  • Certified Mental Performance Consultant certification through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology
