Position Summary:
In addition to coding medical records, supports the coding team and HIM Director by coordinating activities that directly impact the coding team.

Examples include but are not limited to:
• Ensures that policies and procedures as well as coding guidelines are kept current.
• Communicates coding updates and other information as appropriate.
• Coordinates meetings, education and reference materials such as book orders
• Generates and works reports to support such efforts as Discharged Not Final Billed - DNFB and denial management.
• Assists Coding Manager and HIM Director in coordinating coding and CDI audits.
• Assists HIM Director with calendar and employee timecard edits/updates as requested.
• Monitors monthly denials work and assigns accounts to appropriate teams. Feedback and education are shared with responsible staff and trends are communicated appropriately.
• Works with the Information Technology Dept. and vendors to resolve issues that impact coding.
• Other duties as assigned by HIM Management to support the coding operations for the organization.

Coordinates the day-to-day activities of coding functions as requested across the Adirondack Health enterprise in a timely manner and in accordance with Adirondack Health (AH) approved, CMS, and AMA coding guidelines, policies and procedures. Has a basic understanding of coding across inpatient, ambulatory surgery, referred outpatient, and professional services for employed or contracted providers.

Corrects Coding Initiative (CCI) edits and Medical Necessity edits are generated on all coded cases, and the coding team “works” these edits to help with clean claims submission. Monitors this work and assists Coders as needed.

Supports Coding Manager as requested; this includes reviewing RVU analysis reports, working with, educating, and communicating with providers.

Educational Requirements/ Qualifications:
1. Two-year college degree or higher preferred.
2. Professional certifications to include: RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, CHC, CHC-P are preferred.
3. A thorough understanding of anatomy and physiology and medical terminology required.
4. Coding auditing background preferred.
5. Work requires a high level of interpersonal skills to interact with the Medical Staff, Administration, and Quality Management (quality, risk, CDI, etc).
6. Must be organized, articulate and able to work closely with the director and coding team to achieve organizational goals.

Salary Range:

$73,500-$90,000 annual equivalent

Location:

Eligible for a hybrid work schedule at the discretion of management and consistent with Adirondack Health’s flexible work arrangement policy

Skills Required

  • Two-year college degree or higher
  • Professional certifications (RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, CHC, CHC-P)
  • Thorough understanding of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology
