Title: Coding Compliance Specialist
Location: FCN Meridian Administrative Office
City: Bellingham, WA
Position: Full-time, Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm, non-exempt (hourly)
Compensation: The full wage scale is $25.75 - $35.45 per hour. Placement within the wage range is determined by a candidate’s relevant experience.

Job Summary
The primary function of this position includes supporting FCN staff and Clinicians regarding Coding and Documentation requirements. This will include monitoring and responding to coding review desktop as well as performing internal chart audits.
Essential Job Functions
- Conduct chart audits for possible documentation changes needed to support coding. Based on audit results, assists in providing feedback to enhance accuracy of medical record documentation.
- Research coding errors, identifies trends, and assists in problem solving solutions.
- Monitor coding review desktop to answer coding questions from Physicians, Advanced Practice Providers, Managers and billing staff as needed.
- Assist in developing coding and billing training plans for providers and staff.
- Working knowledge of charge entry according to established FCN policies and procedures.
- Process billings in accordance with insurance carrier requirements.
- Employee seeks assistance as needed and communicates questions in a timely manner and to appropriate staff (supervisor, colleagues, etc.).
- Adheres to assigned work schedule (attendance and punctuality).
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Proven experience with healthcare coding and billing processes.
- Demonstrated deep working knowledge of diagnosis and procedural coding.
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
- AAPC or AHIMA Coding certification or comparable job-related coding experience.
- Proven experience keyboarding & data entry accurately and efficiently.
- Ability to perform detailed work accurately.
- Intermediate computer skills: Health information systems, EMR, MS Word & MS Excel
- Knowledge base in claims processing for medical billing. Working knowledge of Form 1500, CPT and ICD Codes. Calculate accurate payment amounts on insurance. Specialized knowledge of commercial insurance, federal and state billing requirements.
- Demonstrated customer service skills.
- Proven knowledge of a medical office practice and medical terminology.
- Proven ability to solve problems, issues and concerns in a professional manner.
- Experience working as part of a team and modeling a positive work ethic & customer friendly relations.
- Ability to prioritize and multitask detailed projects with frequent interruptions.
- Demonstrated ability to establish positive employee relations including conflict resolution.
- Proven experience discerning and maintaining confidentiality, in compliance with applicable State & Federal laws (i.e. HIPAA).
- Demonstrated ability to comprehend and communicate information accurately and clearly (verbally and in writing, in person and via phone) with patients, all levels of personnel, and other individuals and groups.

QualificationsEducation & Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Medical office experience preferred.
- AAPC or AHIMA Coding Certification required.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to: stand; walk; sit; use hand to finger coordination, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance, stoop, kneel, crouch; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include: close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust and focus.
