Job Description

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

CoC (Chain of Custody)  Regional Manager for Affiliates in Western Europe and Americas is responsible for Quality assurance for audits, technical support for the assigned affiliates and other tasks assigned for maintaining the accreditations.

The role reports to the Manager of the CBE European Competence Center Forestry Timber and Paper.

RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Supporting the development of the CBE timber and paper certification business (primarily FSC/PEFC COC certification, timber due diligence services) in the regions of the assigned affiliates (Western Europe and Americas).
    • Constantly ensure proper level of communication and interaction with the Global Forestry Team to evaluate common business development options.
    • Supporting the Global technical Manager in revising the COC procedures and associated documents. Ensure that COC accreditation standards are incorporated into the SGS procedures and communicated with the affiliates and auditors.
    • Provide technical support and information to assigned SGS affiliates in a timely manner.
    • Coordinate the technical review of COC reports to ensure that the reports are in line with the accreditation requirements and certification decision making.
    • Perform technical reviews of COC reports if required.
    • Perform Technical Internal Office Audits (L2) according to the global audit plan.
    • Assure well maintenance of the FSC Database.
    • Quality management and monitoring performance of SGS delivering affiliates (KPI management).
    • Assure the FSC Trademark approval service with qualified trademark officers.
    • Assure that all necessary records are maintained as required by accreditation requirements.
    • Attend accreditation body audits and follow-up on accreditation body CARs as advised by the Accreditation Manager(s).
    • Follow-up on complaint and appeals as advised by the Accreditation Manager(s).
    • Setup and maintain formal initial and update trainings for COC auditors (Training tools, Academy) in collaboration with the Training Manager.
    • Support the Global Training Manager with required trainings for FSC and PEFC COC (initial auditor training, update trainings).
    • Act as Tutor for COC Lead Auditor Trainings
    • Assure the certification competences, in cooperation with the Accreditation Manager(s).
    • Consult Affiliates in hiring, training and registration of new auditors. Prepare the New Auditor Application Packages for signature be the accreditation Manager.
    • Conduct L1 audits of COC auditors if required.
    • Adhere to all quality and safety requirements of the SGS management system.
    • Conduct training courses as assigned by direct line manager.
    • Conduct FSC audits as assigned if required.
    • Perform any other reasonable tasks as assigned by direct line manager.

SPECIFIC AUTHORITIES

    • Cease the use of any equipment that may be deemed to constitute a safety hazard or enter hazardous environments without the necessary knowledge and protection and report the situation to higher authority to take action.
    • Cease to carry on with work that may affect the quality (integrity) of services and report the situation to higher authority to take action.
    • Initiate a formal improvement request when a deviation of the system occurs, possible improvements are identified or when nonconformity is identified.

Qualifications

Education

    • Tertiary education in Forest Management or Timber Engineering or secondary education, with equivalent professional training and work experience.
    • Forestry Chain of Custody Lead Auditor Trainer

Experience and Competencies:

    • FSC COC Lead Auditor (must have)
    • Work experience in timber and/or paper industries
    • Audit and commercial experience associated with product, including commercial proposal
    • Leadership skills ability to drive and lead change
    • Analytical, decisive, adaptable, ethical, problem solver, persuasive, commercially-sensitive
    • Customer and commercial focus
    • Verbal & written communication skills in English –developed presentation skills and ability to interact effectively with senior government officials, and senior management of organizations.
    • Teamwork with ability to operate without close supervision
    • Computer literate
    • English language proficiency in addition to local language proficiency is an advantage
