Daher’s Sandpoint, Idaho site is a key U.S. aircraft manufacturing and support location specializing in the hand‑built production of the Kodiak aircraft family. The facility supports final assembly, painting, inspection, maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) activities for the Kodiak 100 and Kodiak 900, serving commercial, multi‑mission, and public service customers worldwide. In addition to manufacturing, the site provides comprehensive aircraft maintenance, technical support, and quality oversight, ensuring compliance with FAA regulations and customer requirements, while continuing to expand production capabilities and reinforcing its role as a center of excellence for rugged, mission‑ready turboprop aircraft within Daher’s global network.

Job Description:

Kodiak Aircraft is seeking a Coatings Technician to join our Sandpoint team. This position is responsible for performing aircraft surface preparation, masking, cleaning, sanding, coating application, finishing, inspection, and repair activities in accordance with engineering specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements. This role supports the coatings team by producing high-quality finishes on aircraft structures and components while maintaining safety, quality, and production standards.

Primary Role and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned):

• Prepare aircraft surfaces through cleaning, sanding, scuffing, masking, and surface treatment activities.
• Apply primers, topcoats, specialty coatings, sealants, and protective finishes in accordance with engineering and manufacturing requirements.
• Perform touch-up, repair, blending, polishing, and refinishing activities as necessary.
• Operate spray equipment, paint systems, hand tools, and power tools safely and effectively.
• Inspect completed work for quality, appearance, contamination, and coating defects.
• Read and interpret work instructions, engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
• Maintain compliance with company quality standards, production schedules, and regulatory requirements.
• Support inventory control, material handling, and housekeeping activities.
• Participate in safety initiatives, continuous improvement efforts, and team problem-solving activities.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
• Experienced technicians may assist with troubleshooting, process improvements, mentoring, and training activities.

What you need to have:

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Ability to read and understand work instructions, procedures, and technical documentation.
• Mechanical aptitude and the ability to safely use hand tools and power tools.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators.
• Ability to obtain and maintain required safety and environmental training certifications.
• Ability to stand, bend, kneel, climb, reach, and perform physical work throughout the shift.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous aerospace, manufacturing, industrial painting, automotive, construction, or related experience.
• Trade school, vocational training, or technical education.
• Experience with surface preparation, masking, painting, coatings, or finishing processes.
• Experience operating spray equipment, including HVLP systems.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings.
• Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and 5S principles.
• Leadership or mentoring experience for advanced-level positions.

Information related to the position:

• Starting at $23.00 per hour
• The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Daher considers a number of factors when determining salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, skills, and current market conditions.
