POSITION SUMMARY

The Co-Assistant Nurse Manager works to promote health, prevent disease and assist the registered nurse with patient needs by reinforcing the providers/ physician’s instructions. The position combines the roles of provider, mentor, educator of patients and other staff. The Co-Assistant Nurse Manager must honor the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s guidelines on licensing. All communication to include privacy and security of patient protected health information must be exercised at all times. The employee must perform all other duties as assigned. Reports to the Nurse Manager for clinically related issues and to the Practice Manager for clinic practices and policies. Oversees Nurses and Medical Assistants.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

While living and demonstrating our core values, the Co-Assistant Nurse Manager will:

  • Direct observation of all Medical Assistants on a monthly basis   
  • Observe, guide, and direct resident blood draws  
  • Train new LPNs  
  • Care Management – Responsible for 30 chronic care management patients each month  
  • Co-assist in monitoring CCM dashboard for each individual nurse at all clinics
  • Transition of Care – Follow patients through hospital stay and follow up with them after discharge  
  • Manage LPN schedule and fill gaps as needed
  • Monitor ambulatory blood pressure cuffs
  • Complete LPN peer reviews  
  • Provide ongoing education and training on any new equipment or procedures 
  • Triage all patient telephone calls and provides consultation in considerate and respectful manner
  • Assist schedulers with fitting in sick visits  
  • Perform patient assessment through vital signs and interview while assigning them to an exam room when medical assistants are not available
  • Prepare and administer medications and injections per physician or physician extender in absence of Registered Nurses
  • Assure all information is put in EMR  
  • Complete all required or requested patient forms
  • Obtain prior authorizations on medications as required by insurances
  • Maintain current stock of medical supplies – ordering when needed
  • Exercise HIPAA confidentiality and security measures at all times during office hours and outside of the office
  • Demonstrate responsibility for self-learning through participation in continuing education activities and conferences
  • Participate in quality improvement reviews and activities in the clinical setting
  • Serve as a clinical resource for staff, clients and families
  • Co-assist Manager VFC program
  • Act as back-up in absence of Nurse Manager for scheduling and call-off monitoring
  • Oversee daily vaccine inventory of the AccuVax for all locations
  • Co-assist Manager with COVID-19 vaccine inventory and daily updates

Requirements

  • Meet The Wright Center for Community Health and its affiliated entity The Wright Center for Graduate Medical Education EOS© People Analyzer Tool
  • Buy in and experience working in the EOS® model (strongly preferred)
  • Mission-oriented; represents the enterprise in a professional manner while demonstrating organizational pride
  • Licensed Practical Nurse with 3-5 years experience in healthcare environment required
  • Current PA LPN License
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Interpersonal Skills
  • Excellent verbal communication and congruent body language
  • Effective telephone skills: checks messages frequently, returns phone calls promptly and uses professional telephone manners

Skills Required

  • Licensed Practical Nurse with 3-5 years experience in healthcare environment
  • Current Pennsylvania LPN license
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience using EMR and ensuring timely documentation in EMR
  • Experience managing vaccine inventory (AccuVax) and related reporting
  • Experience supervising or overseeing nurses and medical assistants
  • Ability to triage patient telephone calls professionally and effectively
  • Ability to obtain prior authorizations for medications as required
  • Maintain HIPAA confidentiality and security standards
  • Meet The Wright Center EOS(C) People Analyzer Tool requirements
