Summary Operate CNC machine centers such as vertical/horizontal mills and/or turning centers. Operate control consoles to enter data for machine operation. The machining operation requires loading CNC programs and tool magazines and the set up and positioning of parts in holding fixtures; also edit programs as required to produce optimal results. Work independently with minimal direction from Team Leader. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Work from and follow process specifications, travelers, blueprints, rework/rejection tags, work instruction, relevant process controls, and verbal/written instruction. 
  • Required to concurrently run multiple machine centers. Load machine as required in accordance with router instructions. 
  • Actively observe machine operation to detect workpiece defects or machine malfunction. 
  • Conduct in process inspections and measure workpiece dimensions to determine accuracy of machine operation. 
  • Ensure quality standards / inspection plan are completed / meet for the completed machine operation. 
  • Edit program as required to compensate for tool wear and machine operation in order to continually produce parts within tolerance. 
  • Remove flashing, burrs, and sharp edges from work piece and perform other additional operations at CNC work center that will reduce shop flow. 
  • Required to maintain cutting tool inserts and replace/repair tools as necessary to assure machine operation. 
  • Machine and work area must be kept clean. 
  • Requires the use of and ownership of basic tools and various hand tools as specified by departmental tool list.
  • Scrutinize every facet of job and report improper operation, faulty equipment, defective materials, and unusual conditions to Team Leader 
  • Perform housekeeping chores as department requirements dictate. 
  • Other duties as assigned by Team Leader.

Education & Experience Requirements:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED), and at least one year related experience and training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

· Ability to communicate effectively with all internal and external customers in both written and oral form. 

· Ability to perform statistical process control input and interpret statistical data to compensate for machining deviation. Ability to perform mathematical calculations on fractions, percentages, decimals, and machine speeds/feeds.

Supervisory Responsibilities

· This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

· May be required to train and assist other employees.

Skills Required

  • High school diploma or GED (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • At least one year of related CNC machining experience and training
  • Experience setting up and running vertical/horizontal mills and/or turning centers
  • Ability to load, edit, and run CNC programs and maintain tool magazines/inserts
  • Ability to perform statistical process control input and interpret statistical data
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations on fractions, percentages, decimals, and machine speeds/feeds
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Occasional lifting/moving up to 50 pounds and required vision abilities (color vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus)
