About this Opportunity:
The CNC Machinist II is the primary, journey-level CNC machining position at Vander-Bend. It is differentiated from the CNC Machinist I by the greater complexity of parts built, machines operated, inspections performed, and problems solved.
Responsibilities:
- Incorporates all duties and responsibilities of the CNC Machinist I.
- Sets up all 2 and 3 axis machining jobs on Vertical, Horizontal, or Turning centers.
- Changes feeds, speeds, and makes other basic G-code edits as necessary, and reports changes to programmer or supervisor.
- Trouble-shoots machining defects (dimensional or surface finish) and either corrects or recommends correction as appropriate.
- Recommends program optimization steps where inefficiencies are observed.
- Designs and builds simple machining fixtures (e.g. soft jaws, custom plates).
- Observes and evaluates tool wear, makes recommendations for alternate tooling types.
- Inspects any features except 3D surfaces.
- Provides training guidance to lower skilled machinists.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 5 years minimum machining experience, at least 4 of which must be on CNC equipment.
- All knowledge/skills required of CNC Machinist I, plus the following:
- Setup, run, and inspect full 3 (multi) axis jobs.
- “Highly skilled” familiarity with at least one of the following CNC controls: Fanuc, Mazak, Haas
- Experience with a variety of different material types and hardness.
- Use of basic machining inspection tools including calipers, micrometer, height gage, pin gages, thread gages.
- Highly familiar with Geometric dimensioning and tolerances – able to understand and explain any GD&T symbol.
- “Confident” ability to communicate verbally in English, to understand technical directions on blueprints, travelers, and computer screens in English, and to create understandable written job status reports for shift changes.
- Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
- Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Skills Required
