CNC Machinist II

This role is part of our Space and Launch business, which has contributed to the nation’s space programs for decades by delivering complete solutions from concept to flight. We enable successful space operations with mission-critical technology supporting every step from first launch to final landing, including launch vehicle subsystems, propulsion systems, aerodynamic and interstage systems, and payload protection and deployment. As a Machinist II, you help produce the precision‑machined components essential to our launch and space systems. You set up and operate computer numerical control (CNC) machines, verify part accuracy, and support smooth shop operations by maintaining organization and equipment readiness. Your work ensures that every part meets exact specifications and is ready for integration into mission‑critical hardware.
Responsibilities
- Sets up and operates CNC machines to manufacture parts according to engineering drawings and customer specifications.
- Performs machining tasks including loading and unloading materials, deburring parts, inspecting in‑process components, assisting with packaging, and monitoring shop supplies.
- Ensures dimensional accuracy and maintains quality levels throughout production runs.
- Reads and interprets blueprints and applies shop inspection skills using appropriate tools.
- Utilizes measuring and setup tools correctly to support precise machining operations.
- Troubleshoots routine machining or production issues to maintain efficient workflows.
- Maintains equipment, shop cleanliness, tooling inventory, and debris‑free machining areas.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma.
- Typically 2–5 years of machining experience with demonstrated ability to operate shop tools and equipment.
- General mechanical aptitude, dexterity, and proficiency using measuring and setup tools.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with lathe setup and operation (Haas, Mazak Integrex, Fanuc controls).
- Versatility across multiple machine centers.
- Strong communication skills, work ethic, and attention to detail.
- Ability to read G‑code and M‑code, interpret blueprints, troubleshoot production issues, and conduct inspections.
Physical Requirements
- Standing and walking for extended periods.
- Occasional use of stairs.
- Lifting up to 40 pounds. The essential functions of this position must be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.
