CNC Machinist and Programmer – 5-Axis

Fabri is seeking an exceptional 5-Axis CNC Machinist and Programmer to build and lead our machining capability from the ground up. This is a high-ownership, hands-on role for someone who thrives in startup environments and to help define the machining backbone of a next-generation digital foundry from day one.

You will be the founding machining hire, responsible for machine-selection, set-ups, programming, operating, and maintaining 5-axis CNC machines to support finishing of complex cast and additively manufactured metal parts. This is a high-growth role with opportunities to build out and lead a machining team as our finishing capabilities expand, as well as work with the process development teams on innovative finishing and inspection solutions.

The Company

We are an early-stage investment casting startup building a fully integrated digital foundry. Our mission is to deliver precision metal castings with unparalleled speed and cost-effectiveness. By leveraging our exclusive high-throughput additive manufacturing process and AI-driven design software, we can deliver castings in days, saving our customers critical time and money. We are well capitalized and backed by top-tier investors and major customers, with significant funding raised in the past year.  We’ve shipped our first customer parts and have generated significant commercial excitement in both the aerospace and industrial sectors.

Fabri is located in Boston Metrowest. During this startup phase and for the foreseeable future, all employees will be on-site and closely involved with building and operating the end-to-end process.

Fabri is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. We foster an environment where safety and commitment to quality are central in everything we do.

The Role

As the Founding 5-Axis Machinist, you will:

  • Build Fabri’s machining capability from scratch

  • Own machining strategy end-to-end: equipment, tooling, fixturing, programming, inspection, and workflows

  • Personally run, maintain and program machines while building Fabri’s longer term finishing capabilities

  • Apply first-principles reasoning to solve the difficult dimensional, workholding and finishing challenges of metal castings for critical aerospace and defense applications

  • Work closely with casting, additive, and metrology teams to close the loop between design intent, process physics, and final part quality

You will report directly to the COO and play a central role in shaping Fabri’s long-term manufacturing and operations roadmap.

Responsibilities
  • Program, set up, and operate 5-axis CNC machines for complex metal parts

  • Develop machining strategies for critical aerospace castings, including support removal, degating and innovative fixturing and inspection strategies

  • Own tooling, fixturing, probing, and CAM workflows

  • Build and maintain Fabri’s machine shop from scratch: buy decisions for machines, tooling, fixtures, probes etc.

  • Troubleshoot dimensional and GD&T-related issues and feed learnings back to casting and additive teams

  • Work with the software team to encode machining strategies into the FoundryOS

  • Define inspection strategies in collaboration with metrology

  • Establish machining standards and scalable workflows

Qualifications
  • 3+ Years as a 5-axis machinist, with both CAM programing and operating experience

  • Proven success machining castings or additively manufactured metal parts

  • Strong command of GD&T and tolerance-driven decision making

  • Solid intuition for machining physics (cutting forces, stiffness, deflection, thermal effects)

  • Comfortable owning machines end-to-end in a startup environment

  • Strong communication skills and cross-functional mindset

Fabri does not provide visa sponsorship for this position. To comply with ITAR regulations, candidates for this role must be US nationals (i.e., US citizens or lawful permanent residents) to be considered.

Preferred Skills
  • Aerospace/defense or adjacent manufacturing experience machining critical parts

  • Experience working in an AS9100 or ISO9001 qualified manufacturing environment

  • Familiarity with aerospace quality and documentation expectations

  • Experience with setup and machining of metal castings or metal 3D printed parts

  • Exposure to metrology tools such as CMMs or 3D scanning

  • Experience building or scaling a machine shop from the ground up

  • Experience with tooling/fixture design

What We Offer
  • A foundational role in building the machining capability of a cutting-edge digital foundry

  • Meaningful work in reindustrializing and reshoring the US’ most critical supply chains

  • A clear growth path as a machining leader as the company scales

  • Technical ownership over some of the hardest problems in advanced manufacturing and opportunities to learn new skills adjacent to machining

  • Direct impact on customer parts, company capabilities, and long-term strategy

  • Competitive salary, meaningful equity, and strong long-term upside
