Job Summary:
Responsible for the design, programming, and process development of CNC turning and milling operations for sheet plastic and plastic component manufacturing. Focuses on CAD/CAM design, tooling development, and process engineering to deliver high-quality machined plastic parts across the full production lifecycle.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design and develop CAD models and engineering drawings for plastic components and assemblies using SolidWorks.
- Create and optimize CAM toolpaths for CNC turning and milling of plastic materials using SolidCAM, Cimatron, and/or Alphacam.
- Develop cutting strategies and parameters optimized for plastic substrates (Acrylic, Polycarbonate, HDPE, UHMW-PE, PVC, Delrin, Nylon).
- Design jigs, fixtures, and work-holding solutions for CNC turning, milling, and routing operations on plastic parts.
- Collaborate with production teams to translate design intent into manufacturable processes.
- Perform Design for Manufacturability (DFM) reviews and recommend design modifications to improve producibility.
- Write and maintain Standard Operating Procedures / Work Instructions (SOP/WI) for machining processes.
- Support new product introduction (NPI) by developing programs and process parameters from prototype to mass production.
- Conduct process validation and capability studies for new and existing machining processes.
- Participate in and lead troubleshooting for machining defects; identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure periodical achievement of Process Failure Mode Effect Analysis (PFMEA).
- Interface with contractors, suppliers, and stakeholders for tooling and material specifications.
- Identify opportunities for process optimization, cycle time reduction, and continuous improvement.
- Verify quality of machined parts using CMM, surface roughness tester, calipers, and other measuring equipment.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Speaks fluent English with good communication abilities; experience communicating projects in a global company.
- Strong proficiency in CAD/CAM systems: SolidWorks, SolidCAM, Cimatron, and Alphacam.• Deep understanding of CNC turning and milling processes for plastic materials.
- Proficient with G & M code (Fanuc & Okuma OSP preferred).
- Able to interpret and create mechanical drawings; strong knowledge of GD&T.
- Knowledge of plastic material properties, thermal behavior, and machining characteristics.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and design-thinking skills.
- Experience with Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles.
- Implementation and monitoring of work routines.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Plastic manufacturing related experience is an advantage.
Educational and Experience:
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience as a CNC Design Engineer or CNC Programmer in a machining environment.
- Degree in any engineering discipline, preferably Mechanical or Mechatronic.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, fabrication methods, and tool & fixture design.
- Experience in machining of plastic materials is highly preferred.
- Familiarity with manufacturing process equipment and quality assurance techniques.
- Experience in CNC programming for Milling, Lathe, and Turn-mill machines (3-axis, 5-axis Milling & 4-axis Turn - mill).
- Well-versed in SolidWorks, SolidCAM, Cimatron, and Alphacam.
- Working in ISO 9001:2015 environment organizations.
