Job Purpose: The primary responsibility of this position is to support the administration of medications to residents, as prescribed by the attending physician, under the guidance of both the attending physician and the Wellness Director. This will be carried out in accordance with established nursing standards, policies, procedures, and practices of the residence, as well as state regulations. Additionally, there may be a requirement to fulfill duties as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) as directed. Please refer to the CNA job description for further details.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  •  Administer medications to patients as prescribed, ensuring accuracy and compliance with medical guidelines.
  • Keep medicine carts and medication room organized, clean, and appropriately stocked.
  • Monitor patients for side effects and report any adverse reactions to the supervising nurse or physician.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential medication and care records, ensuring compliance with policies and state regulations.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of infection control practices, including proper hand hygiene, bloodborne pathogen protocols, and universal precautions.
  • Complete administrative tasks, such as filling out necessary forms, charts, and reports, and submitting them as required.
  • Ensure that medications are administered accurately, documenting any instances where medication is not administered, including reasons for refusal. Support residents in the self-administration of medications, following residence procedures.
  • Be familiar with common medical abbreviations, symbols, and terminology related to medication administration as used by the residence, pharmacists, and physicians.
  • Report any exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, or hazardous chemicals in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Work in the Neighborhood (memory care) as assigned, interacting with residents in a secure area, including those with
  • dementia. Maintain a safe and secure environment for staff, residents, and guests by adhering to established safety standards.
  • Perform additional duties as required

Position Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of six months' experience in working with the elderly.
  • Current state medication certificate or licensure in states where required.
  • Current CPR certificate or the ability to gain a certificate within 30 days.
