• Senior Leadership Team: Is a member of the Senior Leadership Team at the facility, provides counsel and a physician perspective to all discussions and action plans related to service expansion, changes and improvements, new technologies, policies, and operational and strategic decisions regarding patient care. Collaborates with and advises the CEO on matters dealing with Medical Staff concerns and development opportunities. Attends Administrative and Board of Directors meetings as requested by the CEO. Participates in contract development and management as requested by the CEO.
• Clinical Executive Liaison to Medical Staff: Serves as the Administrative liaison to the Medical Staff, attends the Medical Executive Committee and other Medical Staff committees and meetings, in either an ex officio or regular membership capacity as appropriate. Represents the Medical Staff and Administration points of view to further the relationships and collaboration within the facility and enhance overall performance and outcomes.
• Medical Staff Office: Oversees the Medical Staff Office functions in support of the Medical Executive Committee and Medical Staff leadership, and Medical Staff committees, meetings, onboarding, communications, credentialing, and privileging.
• Credentialing and Privileging: Provides oversight to the campus Medical Staff credentialing and privileging process in coordination with the facility Medical Staff Office, the WFD Centralized Verification Office, facility administration, legal counsel, and Board of Directors, in compliance with the Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules and Regulations. Provides feedback to WFD leadership and WFD CMO group in development and utilization of division-wide privilege forms, representing and communicating with the facility’s Medical Staff in that process.
• Bylaws, Rules and Regulations, and Medical Staff Policies: Works closely with the Chief of Staff and Medical Executive Committee leaders to monitor, review, and enforce the Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations and Medical Staff Policies. Works with the WFD to maintain consistency with the Division-wide Bylaws, and Rules and Regulations.
• Peer Review: Provides support and guidance to the Medical Staff Peer Review process, ensuring that appropriate data and information is provided for the Peer Review activities of the Medical Staff, in compliance with the Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulation, and the Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Act provisions empowering the facility’s Patient Safety Organization (PSO).
• Quality and Performance Improvement: Achieves and maintains AdventHealth quality and performance goals. Works with the facility CNO as a Clinical Dyad in ensuring that the facility’s quality and patient safety goals are met. Oversees and supports the Quality Department in activities related to the facility Performance Improvement and Patient Safety Plan. Acts as a liaison of the Administration, Medical Staff and Quality Department to the Board of Directors in support of its responsibility for overall patient safety and quality outcomes.
• Patient Safety: Works with Infection Control, Risk Management and other facility departments to reduce and avoid patient harms and meet AdventHealth patient safety goals.
• Regulatory: Provides assistance to the facility and AdventHealth to ensure compliance with Federal and State regulations, the Joint Commission/DNV standards, and other licensing and regulatory agency requirements.
• Utilization Management: Assures facility compliance with the Utilization Management Plan. Provides guidance to and participates with the facility’s Utilization Management Committee. Assists the WFD Physician Advisors in case assessment, and communications with and cooperation by the Medical Staff in UM activities. Promotes practices that provide the highest quality patient care balanced with appropriate service utilization and cost.
• Care Management: Collaborates with the Care Management in communication and cooperation by the Medical Staff in Care Management activities including optimal and timely discharge planning for patients, appropriate use of Home Health and Infusion services, and appropriate use of Palliative Care and Hospice services.
• HIM/CDI: Works with the WFD HIM, the WFD Clinical Documentation Improvement program, and Clinical Leadership to promote high quality, timely medical record documentation and completion, achieving clinical documentation that is fully and accurately representative of the care delivered to patients, enhancing quality, service utilization, and the financial goals for the facility.
• Informatics: Has or will develop a working knowledge of Epic and assists in the education of the Medical Staff on the Epic system. Has oversight of the Informatics staff assigned to the facility in conjunction with AdventHealth IT.
• Graduate Medical Education: Where there is a GME program at the facility, provides guidance and oversight to the program.
• Evidence-Based Medicine: Leads in the continuing adoption of evidence-based medicine by the Medical Staff. Is committed and dedicated to communicating the importance and precepts of evidence-based medicine.
• Risk Management: Provides oversight to the facility’s Risk Management department. Assists the Risk Manager in assessment of patient safety events, completion of required regulatory reports, risk assessments, and root cause analyses. Provides guidance in communicating adverse events to patients, families, and providers.
• Infection Control: Has direct responsibility over the Infection Control Practitioner, the Infection Control Medical Director, and the Infection Control Committee. Works with the Medical Staff to adopt infection control measures, including hand hygiene and vaccination policies, to reduce infection risk to patients and staff.
• Pharmacy and Therapeutics: Works with the Medical Staff, the WFD Formulary and Therapeutics Committee, and the AdventHealth Formulary and Therapeutics Committee to adopt and comply with the AdventHealth Formulary and Policies, and adopt best practices in medication utilization. Works with Medical Staff, Nursing and Pharmacy to enhance medication safety and medication reconciliation.
• Recruitment and Retention: Actively participates in efforts to recruit and retain Medical Staff members, offering advice regarding clinical services and programs needed by the facility to achieve its service and quality goals.
• Business Development: Works to promote and enhance service, program and technological advancements at the facility to promote improved patient care and facility financial targets.
• AdventHealth Medical Group: Acts as a direct liaison between the AHMG Group and the facility, with oversight of the AHMG associated with the facility as required by the CEO.
• Medical Staff Well-Being: Works with Medical Staff and Division Leadership to develop and maintain a program at the facility to enhance Medical Staff Well-Being.
• Just Culture and Professionalism: Works in the establishment of Just Culture and Professionalism standards and practices for the Medical Staff. Develops, implements, and monitors disruptive Medical Staff and impaired Medical Staff policies and intervention programs.
• Medical Staff Leadership Development: Works with the WFD Leadership in establishing and maintaining an ongoing program to orient and develop management expertise for the Chief of Staff, Medical Executive Committee, and other Medical Staff leaders.
• Community Representative: Acts as facility’s clinical spokesperson to the community at large. Participates in community activities to promote and represent the facility and AdventHealth. Develops and fosters effective working relationships with the Medical Staff, hospital professional staff and community providers.
• AdventHealth Alignment: Works toward ensuring Medical Staff alignment with the AdventHealth Mission, Vision, Values, Service Standards and Culture. Works toward ensuring Medical Staff alignment with AdventHealth goals, programs, policies and standards.
