Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Equipment Ownership: Lead equipment specification, qualification, technical ownership, TPM implementation, and reliability engineering to ensure optimal performance and minimal downtime.
  • APQP Process Ownership: Manage APQP processes for assigned areas, driving compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Tooling Management: Oversee NPI development, design, testing, lifecycle management, vendor relationships, and yield improvement initiatives.
  • Process Development: Develop and industrialize layup/forming concepts for CMC processes, ensuring alignment with FLIGHT DECK principles.
  • Material Optimization: Optimize material utilization, including nesting of plies and ply shapes, to reduce waste and improve efficiency.
  • Process and Yield Improvements: Lead industrialization efforts for existing and NPI processes, focusing on yield improvement projects related to equipment, processes, and tooling design.
  • Management of Change: Conduct process optimization and capacity analysis to support production needs, leveraging FLIGHT DECK tools to align with SQDC goals.
  • Team Development: Train and empower technicians, fostering a collaborative and productive team environment that supports continuous improvement and FLIGHT DECK behaviors.
  • Consumable Planning: Manage consumable specifications and capacity planning to ensure operational efficiency and cost control.
  • Performance Metrics: Monitor and improve OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) and drive PFMEA RPN reduction projects to enhance process reliability and stability.
  • Problem Solving: Lead root cause/corrective action (RCCA) initiatives using FLIGHT DECK resources to address and resolve process and equipment issues.
  • Continuous Improvement: Support FLIGHT DECK activities to drive operational excellence, leveraging lean tools and methodologies.
  • Program and Project Leadership: Coordinate APQP, NPI, and MOC activities to support new and existing programs, ensuring effective industrialization, yield, cost, cycle, and production improvements.
  • Communication: Clearly articulate project and program progress to technicians, process engineers, site leadership, and executive business leaders, ensuring alignment with business goals.
  • Operational Support: Provide support for 24/7 manufacturing processes, including responding to off-hours issues to minimize production disruptions and ensure maximum equipment and process effectiveness.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university (or a High School Diploma / GED with a minimum of 4 years of experience in Manufacturing).
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, production processes, and equipment.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Technical Expertise: Background in ceramic engineering, chemical engineering, or materials science engineering preferred.
  • CMC Manufacturing Knowledge: Extensive experience in CMC process manufacturing or completion of the Composite Technical Track (CTT) program.
  • Automation and Robotics: Experience with automation and FANUC robots.
  • Tool Design: Proficiency in layup tool design and development.
  • Flexibility: Ability to adapt to changing business needs and priorities.
  • Skills: Strong mathematical, analytical, communication (written/oral), and presentation skills.
  • Leadership: Proven ability to train, mentor, and lead teams effectively, fostering collaboration and delivering results.
  • FLIGHT DECK Expertise: Demonstrated ability to apply FLIGHT DECK principles to drive continuous improvement, process stability, and cost savings.
  • Technical Proficiency: Expertise in composite processes, methods, design, and manufacturing, including complex shapes/structure design and layup. Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or CAD/CAM/CAE software such as Siemens NX.
  • Problem-Solving: Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems using logical thinking and proven methodologies, including FLIGHT DECK tools.
  • Project Management: Experience leading programs/projects with established project management skills.
  • Safety and Quality: Knowledge of safety agency regulations, ISO standards, and quality procedures, with a focus on maintaining high standards of safety and quality in line with FLIGHT DECK principles.
  • Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively across functions, including Certifying Agents, Controlled Title Holders, and Leadership teams.
  • Commitment: Willingness to work off-shift, respond to off-hours issues, and support production needs with a sense of urgency.
