We are seeking an Operations Data Analyst to work in the Digital Solutions Architecture and Operations team to support the effective operation, optimization, and financial management of cloud-based services. Working closely with our Asset and Products team and the wider operations, technical, and business stakeholders, this role will turn operational data into clear evidence that helps teams understand cost, performance, reliability, and the root causes of service issues. The ideal candidate combines analytical discipline with an appreciation of cloud operations and a practical familiarity with Microsoft Azure technologies.
Your Opportunity
The Operations Data Analyst will play a key role in helping Stantec proactively make informed, evidence-based decisions in the operation of our Azure Landing Zone environments. The role will gather, validate, analyse, and present operational and financial data from Azure and related platforms, supporting our FinOps activities, service improvement, incident analysis, and cost accountability.
Working within a Microsoft-based environment, you will use query, data transformation, and visualisation tools to investigate patterns, test hypotheses, identify contributing factors, and communicate findings in a way that is meaningful to both technical and non-technical audiences. While helping establish repeatable analysis methods, trusted reporting, and actionable insights that improve operational outcomes, this is not just management reporting. This role is about making a positive difference in how we run our cloud operations, especially when troubleshooting operational issues with the technical teams.
Key Responsibilities - Operational Data Analysis & FinOps
In this role, you will have the following responsibilities:
- Collect, check, and organize operational, usage, performance, and cost data from Microsoft Azure and related platforms.
- Support FinOps and operational reporting across DCoE and with Digital Practices by identifying cost drivers, usage trends, anomalies, and opportunities for improvement.
- Use KQL, Power Query, Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, and other Microsoft tools to analyze data and create clear reports, with support and training where needed.
- Assist technical teams with investigations into incidents, service issues, unexpected costs, and recurring operational problems.
- Present findings in a simple, evidence-based way, clearly highlighting known facts, assumptions, data quality issues, and recommended next steps.
- Work with cloud, finance, service management, and engineering colleagues to improve data quality, tagging, reporting consistency, and operational insight.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Apply structured analytical thinking and practical problem-solving to operational questions, with guidance where needed.
- Demonstrate an appreciation of cloud operations, including reliability, monitoring, resource utilization, support processes, and cost management.
- Use or develop skills in KQL, Power Query, Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, and related tools to analyze data and present clear findings.
- Communicate findings clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders, including assumptions, evidence limits, and recommended next steps.
- Collaborate constructively across operations, finance, engineering, architecture, and service management teams while continuing to build Azure and operational knowledge.
Qualifications
Education, Qualifications & Experience
- Relevant experience or interests in data analysis, operational analysis, cloud operations, service management, business intelligence, FinOps, or related discipline.
- Practical familiarity with Microsoft Azure concepts, cost and usage data, monitoring, logging, and reporting tools; deeper platform knowledge can be developed in the role.
- Experience using analytical tools such as Excel, Power Query, Power BI, or Microsoft Fabric with awareness of SQL, KQL, to investigate data, identify trends, and present clear findings.
Desirable
- Familiarity with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Application Insights, Cost Management, Resource Graph, Workbooks, or related Azure operational tools.
- Awareness of cloud cost models, tagging, budgets, licensing, cost allocation, and basic FinOps principles.
- Exposure to service management processes, data governance, security, privacy, or role-based access considerations in cloud environments.
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric, governed dashboards, enterprise reporting, distributed organizations, or the architecture, engineering, and construction industry would be beneficial.

Skills Required
