The Cloud Engineer III - Technology Engineering Lab Manager is primarily responsible for deploying, configuring, troubleshooting and ensuring continuity of QTS physical and virtualized infrastructures and operating systems in our research and development environments, with a fundamental understanding of those specialties including any associated automation. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to successfully analyze and perform technical and process-based problem resolution within a dynamic environment. This role requires out-of-the-box thinking and expert understanding of how various hardware and software technologies integrate to support engineering research and development teams delivering the next generation of products and services for our customers. Candidates must be able to work independently, with minimal supervision to execute on a broad range of projects evaluating new technology while implementing and adhering to rigorous standards of engineering excellence. The candidate must be well versed in Cloud technologies and display a desire to continuously grow and improve both technical and soft skills.

What You Will Do: (Job Responsibilities)

· Develop and maintain a thorough knowledge of the assigned task(s), functional area(s) or project(s).

· Consistently drive systems infrastructure deployment and management functions using automation (IaC).

· Deploy and support physical infrastructure (rack, cable, label) including servers, network and IoT equipment.

· Deploy and support Citrix VDI environments.

· Deploy and support VMware ESXi and similar technologies on various hardware platforms.

· Deploy, monitor, diagnose and troubleshoot Windows and Linux platforms by using diagnostic tools, commands, utilities, monitoring tools.

· Deploy and support containerized application environments – Kubernetes, Docker.

· Consistently demonstrate initiative and commitment to optimizing systems and process.

· Conduct scoping with stakeholder groups for projects ranging in complexity.

· Plan and execute scheduled system maintenance activities including, hardware and software upgrades; software and application patching.

· Plan and execute capacity monitoring and management.

· Plan and execute functional test planning and testing for assigned functional area(s) or project(s).

· Proactively create procedures to prevent/reduce severity of outages.

· Proactively analyze system performance and identify improvement opportunities.

· Create/update infrastructure documentation to include technical diagrams, workbooks, etc.

· Write/update or review Change Requests, MOPs, and similar documentation.

· Manage escalated assigned tickets to ensure SLA compliance and customer satisfaction.

· Provide operational support in response to monitoring alerts and resolve incidents.

· Respond quickly and effectively to production issues and take responsibility for seeing those issues through resolution.

· Deliver customer-focused support through phone calls and ticket-based communications.

· Supervise 3rd party vendor and contractors.

· Other duties as assigned.

What You Will Need to Be Successful: (Required Qualifications, Education, Experience, Certifications)

· Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent professional experience.

· Minimum of 5 years, prefer 7 or more years of progressive IT engineering experience.

· Experience in deploying infrastructure as code (IaC).

· Experience designing and deploying Citrix virtualized desktop and application infrastructure across global enterprise environments.

· Advanced experience deploying, upgrading and migrating complex private cloud environments according to best practices using current versions of VMware vCenter Server and ESXi.

· Advanced experience configuring High Availability and clustering.

· Advanced knowledge of various protocols/services such as SMTP, SNMP, SSL, SSH and DNS.

· Advanced experience deploying and administering Windows, CentOS and Red Hat operating systems.

· Advanced understanding of Python, Ansible, PowerShell, and/or JavaScript/JSON/REST API.

· Advanced experience hardening Operating Systems in accordance with compliance standards and policy.

· Advanced understanding of BGP peering, HSRP, Firewalls and IP subnetting.

· Experience with Active Directory and Exchange administration on an enterprise level.

· Experience with IT monitoring systems.

· Experience with deployment and administration of containerized application infrastructure.

· US Citizenship for this position is required by law due to federal customer contracts.

Nice to Have: (Preferred Qualifications, Education, Experience, Certifications)

· Six or more years of Systems Administration/Engineering experience, with a focus on virtualization and hyperconverged technologies.

· Citrix Certified Professional (CCP-V & CCP-AppDS).

· VMware Certified Professional-Data Center Virtualization (VCP-DCV) certified.

· One or more systems-focused certifications (MCSA/MCSE, RHSE/RHSA, etc.).

· One or more additional technology professional certifications (CompTia A+, Network+, etc.).

· Expert knowledge of data center environments – cabling infrastructure, power, HVAC.

· Extensive experience with Docker and/or Kubernetes.

· Strong knowledge of Python, Ansible, PowerShell, and/or JavaScript/JSON/REST API.

· Ability to communicate effectively with clients, vendors, and colleagues.

· Experience with using ServiceNow CMDB, ticketing and project management modules – ability to develop workflows, scripts and API integrations into 3rd party systems is a big plus.
