Role Description
A Senior Engineer is responsible for designing and developing entire engineering solutions to accomplish business goals. Key responsibilities of this role include ensuring that solutions are well architected, with maintainability and ease of testing built in from the outset, and that they can be integrated successfully into the end-to-end business process flow. They will have gained significant experience through multiple implementations and have begun to develop both depth and breadth in a number of engineering competencies. They have extensive knowledge of design and architectural patterns. They will provide engineering thought leadership within their teams and will play a role in mentoring and coaching of less experienced engineers.

Your key responsibilities
1. Cloud Infrastructure & Automation
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Design, build, and manage resilient and scalable cloud infrastructure using IaC principles and tools such as Terraform, ARM Templates, or CloudFormation.
- Cloud-Native Deployment: Engineer and support robust deployment patterns for cloud-native applications on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), ensuring high availability and performance.
- Containerization: Develop and implement containerization strategies utilizing Docker and Kubernetes (GKE) to modernize applications and streamline the software delivery lifecycle.
- System Migration: Actively support and execute the migration of legacy on-premises systems to modern, cloud-native architectures, minimizing disruption and maximizing benefits.
2. Security, Risk & Compliance
- Descopes Integration: Integrate automated security tooling, including vulnerability scanning and static code analysis, directly into CI/CD pipelines to proactively identify and mitigate risks.
- Regulatory Adherence: Ensure all cloud infrastructure and platform configurations strictly comply with Deutsche Bank's internal policies and external banking regulatory and audit requirements.
- Platform Integrity: Proactively monitor and manage platform security, collaborating with cybersecurity teams to implement and validate security controls.
3. Collaboration & Stakeholder Management
- Stakeholder Communication: Serve as a primary technical point of contact, communicating regularly with development, operations, and security teams to maintain platform integrity, capacity, and performance.
- Cloud Evangelism: Act as a subject matter expert and trusted advisor for GCP, guiding application teams on cloud adoption best practices and evangelizing the value of the platform.
- Customer-Centric Design: Collaborate directly with internal customers and application owners to design, build, and support platform solutions that meet their strategic needs.
- Cross-Functional Teamwork: Operate effectively within a cross-functional, self-managed Agile team, contributing to a community of practice and shortening feedback loops across the software lifecycle.
4. Strategic Initiatives & Continuous Improvement
- Process Optimization: Proactively identify and implement opportunities for optimization and automation of manual processes to enhance efficiency and reduce operational overhead.
- Standardization: Contribute to the standardization of tools, processes, and design patterns across different domains to improve consistency and reduce complexity.
- Innovation & AI: Explore and contribute to the integration of emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), to enhance platform capabilities and deliver business value.
- Federated Governance: Champion a federated, not centralized approach to achieving goals, empowering teams while ensuring alignment with overarching architectural and security standards.
Your skills and experience
- Senior-Level Experience: 10+ years in IT, including 5+ years in a dedicated DevOps/Cloud Automation role and experience leading large-scale application deployments.
- Cloud Expertise: Extensive hands-on experience with public cloud platforms (GCP preferred, Azure/AWS valued) and multi-cloud environments.
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Expert-level proficiency with Terraform and familiarity with other tools like Ansible, Pulumi, or CloudFormation.
- Containerisation: Advanced practical skills in scaling and securing container platforms with Docker and Kubernetes (GKE, OpenShift).
- Automation & CI/CD: Proven ability to design and manage sophisticated CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or similar.
- Scripting & Tooling: Strong scripting capabilities in Python, Bash and Groovy for automation tasks.
- Enterprise Platform Management: Experience managing multi-tenant PaaS products, including implementing solutions for metrics, logging, and security on a scale.
- Industry Background: Experience in the banking or payments domain is strongly preferred.
- Core Competencies: Exceptional communication, collaboration, and complex problem-solving skills.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
