THE ROLE & THE TEAM
The Workplace Infrastructure department is responsible for managing and maintaining the IT infrastructure across the entire Zalando Group, encompassing data centers, server operating systems and lifecycle management, and virtualization across 35 locations. We leverage automation tools like PowerShell, SaltStack, Python, Terraform, and CloudFormation to ensure secure, reliable, and efficient operations. We are committed to implementing industry best practices for datacenter management, optimizing resource utilization, and enhancing data security and accessibility. We are currently undertaking a significant cloud migration project, and this role will provide valuable support to the team.

WHAT WE’D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING)

Support our cloud migration strategy for Windows Server and Linux Ubuntu VMs to AWS using AWS Migration Service (MGN).

Assist in the development and implementation of CloudFormation templates for infrastructure-as-code (IaC), ensuring consistent and repeatable deployments.

Utilize AWS Systems Manager for automated patching, configuration management, and remote control of migrated VMs.

Assist with the management and maintenance of Linux servers (Ubuntu) within AWS, troubleshooting and resolving issues.

Experience with Windows Server administration is desirable.

Contribute to the enhancement and maintenance of existing automation frameworks using SaltStack (or similar configuration management tools) to streamline the migration process and ongoing management of infrastructure within AWS.

Collaborate with internal IT teams to ensure seamless integration with existing on-premises systems and a smooth transition to AWS.

Monitor and optimize cloud resources (EC2, S3, etc.) for cost-effectiveness and performance.

Document processes, configurations, and solutions, contributing to knowledge sharing within the team.

Participate in post-migration operational support and ongoing maintenance of the migrated infrastructure in AWS.
WE’D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF…
- You are experience in a cloud engineering or system administration role.
-
Have demonstrated experience with AWS services (e.g., EC2, S3, VPC, IAM)
-
Exposure to AWS MGN, Systems Manager, and CloudFormation
-
Communicate and coordinate changes and migrations with stakeholders.

Understanding of Linux administration (Ubuntu(Debian), with some experience in managing Windows Server environments.

Experience with SaltStack (or comparable configuration management tools)

Python development experience
-
A strong understanding of networking concepts (VPC, subnetting, routing, security groups, etc.)

Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in an IT infrastructure environment.

Ability to collaborate effectively within a team and clearly communicate technical information.
