OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Cloud Architect Manager to lead the Cloud Architecture function and guide the design, governance, and evolution of scalable, secure, and resilient cloud solutions across Sentara IT. This leader will manage a team of Cloud Architects and Cloud Engineers, define cloud architecture roadmaps, establish reference architectures and standards, and partner across engineering, operations, security, and business teams to enable enterprise transformation. The ideal candidate brings deep cloud architecture expertise, strong leadership experience, and a proven ability to align technology strategy with clinical, operational, and business priorities in a highly regulated environment
Leadership:
· Lead the evolution of the Cloud Architecture function by aligning architecture, engineering, and operations teams to deliver scalable, resilient, and well-governed cloud solutions.
· Lead the development of cloud platforms and enabling capabilities that support emerging AI use cases, including NLP, conversational AI, and large language model solutions.
· Define and lead the cloud architecture roadmap aligned to clinical, financial, and operational priorities.
· Lead the development of cloud architecture blueprints, reference designs, and implementation playbooks that promote consistency and strengthen the cloud community of practice.
Program Execution:
· Oversee the delivery of architecture designs, technical specifications, and implementation guidance for cloud-based applications and services.
· Coach engineering teams on cloud architecture standards, enterprise patterns, and DevSecOps practices.
· Review and assess existing solutions, solution designs, and system architectures to identify improvement opportunities and architectural risks.
· Ensure cloud solutions are secure, scalable, resilient, and aligned with performance expectations.
· Provide architectural oversight for cloud platform health, performance, and availability, partnering with engineering and operations teams to address complex issues.
Education- BLD - Bachelor's Level Degree in Computer Science required
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field Preferred
- Preferred certifications include Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert, AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional, or Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect.
- 7 years of experience in IT required
- 4 years of experience in Project management required
10+ years of experience in IT infrastructure, software development, and technical delivery leadership.
8+ years of experience in cloud architecture, including at least 3 years leading cloud architecture teams in healthcare or similarly regulated industries.
Experience leading enterprise-wide cloud transformation initiatives within a large health system or national healthcare organization.
Proficiency in cloud technologies such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
Strong knowledge of cloud platform capabilities, including API management, web services, container platforms, and virtual machines.
Deep understanding of cloud architecture patterns, standards, and best practices, including API-first design, microservices, messaging, and event-driven architectures.
Experience across modern data and digital platforms, including data warehousing, data lakes, data fabric, machine learning, mobile, and digital experience technologies.
Experience with cloud and data technologies such as SQL Server, MongoDB, Azure Cosmos DB, Azure Synapse, Databricks, Snowflake, Event Grid, Event Hubs, Tableau, and Power BI.
Experience with AI/ML frameworks, MLOps toolchains, and container orchestration technologies supporting modern cloud platforms.
Familiarity with healthcare interoperability standards (FHIR, HL7) and data privacy regulations (HIPAA, GDPR).
Familiarity with cloud security principles and regulatory compliance requirements.
