JOB SUMMARY:

The Clinical Scheduler will be responsible for handling a high volume of inbound and outbound patient calls for the purpose of scheduling appointments, triaging patient’s symptoms/issues and routing calls and cases to providers appropriately and in a timely fashion.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Answer inbound calls and place outbound calls to complete appointment scheduling for patients, following physician-specific criteria, based on appointment type and patient needs.
  • Triage patient symptoms, questions, and concerns to schedule an appointment or escalate to a triage nurse, if necessary.
  • Complete patient registration in Allscripts.
  • Triage and route patient messages to appropriate staff members clinic wide.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of medical insurance and insurance companies.
  • Skill at communicating in a professional manner, both verbally and in writing.
  • Skill in using a computer and a variety of software, including Electronic Health Records (EHR) software, Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook.
  • Skill in attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and deliver excellent customer service.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to be patient in tense situations
  • Ability to be a good representative of Think.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

School diploma or GED equivalent required. Minimum of one (1) year of experience with medical scheduling, preferably in a high-volume environment. Minimum of one (1) year of experience with electronic health records, preferably with Allscripts.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:

This role operates in a healthcare setting. This position requires frequent sitting and computer work and allows employee to vary physical position or activity for comfort.

Must be able to:

  • Stand 10% or longer of a workday.
  • Walk 5% of a workday.
  • Sit 85% of a workday.
  • Requires ability to lift up to 10 pounds occasionally.
  • Requires employee to: bend, squat, kneel and reach above shoulder level occasionally and twist occasionally.
  • Requires repetitive use of hands for: simple grasping, fine manipulation, computer use
  • Requires sensory skills (speech, vision, touch, and hearing) corrected to near normal range.

Skills Required

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum 1 year experience with medical scheduling in a high-volume environment
  • Minimum 1 year experience using electronic health records (EHR)
  • Experience with Allscripts
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook
  • Knowledge of medical insurance and insurance companies
  • Ability to triage patient symptoms and route/escalate appropriately
  • Strong verbal and written communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team
