The Role:
Oxford Nanopore Technologies is seeking a commercially driven and scientifically credible Clinical Sales Specialist to accelerate the adoption of nanopore sequencing within clinical and translational healthcare environments across Southern Europe, covering Italy & Benelux. In this field-based role, this individual will actively develop the clinical market need for Oxford Nanopore's unique and highly differentiated sequencing portfolio.
Please note that the successful candidate must be based in either Italy or the Netherlands for this position.
Reporting to the Director, Clinical Sales Specialist, you will form part of a global team of experienced sales and market development professionals acting to deliver commercial targets and to actively drive awareness of Oxford Nanopore Technologies' products across EMEAI. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving growth of our clinical business by identifying customer-led opportunities and working to develop new clinical applications.
This role combines strategic account management, business development, and clinical market expertise to drive growth across existing and emerging clinical applications. The successful candidate will build trusted relationships with key clinical stakeholders, identify new opportunities, and position ONT solutions within evolving healthcare and diagnostic workflows.
The role is ideal for an experienced genomics or diagnostics commercial professional who thrives in fast-moving environments and enjoys combining scientific depth with commercial impact.
Responsibilities:
Clinical Sales and Business Growth
- Deliver against regional clinical sales targets and strategic growth objectives.
- Develop and execute territory and account plans aligned to commercial priorities.
- Build and maintain a robust sales pipeline using SFDC and related commercial systems.
- Identify and convert new business opportunities across clinical and translational markets.
- Expand adoption within existing accounts while targeting competitor displacement opportunities.
Customer and Stakeholder Management
- Develop strong relationships with clinicians, laboratory leaders, procurement stakeholders, and healthcare decision-makers.
- Clearly communicate the clinical and operational value of ONT technologies.
- Lead complex sales discussions across multiple stakeholder groups.
- Represent ONT professionally at customer meetings, conferences, and scientific events.
Product and Market Alignment
- Maintain strong knowledge of clinical genomics markets, reimbursement landscapes, and competitor activity.
- Collaborate closely with Marketing, Product, Applications, and Channel teams to align regional activities.
- Act as a customer advocate by sharing market insights and feedback internally.
Sales Excellence
- Maintain up‑to‑date skills and knowledge in ONT tools and systems.
- Monitor opportunities and act promptly to meet deadlines and reporting requirements.
- Demonstrate SME-level proficiency in SFDC and Seismic for funnel management.
Channel Parter Collaboration
- Support channel partners and distributors in driving regional clinical sales activity.
- Contribute to partner enablement and training initiatives where required.
Requirements:
- BSc or equivalent experience in life sciences, biomedical science, genetics, or a related field.
- Several years’ commercial experience within genomics, molecular diagnostics or life sciences.
- Strong understanding of clinical genomics and healthcare markets.
- Proven success in consultative or strategic sales roles.
- Familiarity with sequencing technologies and clinical laboratory workflows.
- Experience managing complex stakeholder environments.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work independently across a broad territory.
- Experience within oncology, rare disease, inherited disease or infectious disease would be beneficial.
