About the opportunity

Werribee Mercy Hospital is entering a landmark new phase, with the opening of a major Emergency Department expansion. This expansion will significantly increase our capacity and enable us to meet the rapidly growing healthcare needs of the Wyndham community, providing timely, high-quality emergency care to an additional 25,000 patients each year.

The expanded department will increase treatment spaces from 33 to 67, including state-of-the-art resuscitation bays and dedicated short-stay beds, creating one of Victoria’s most exciting Emergency Department growth opportunities.

As a Clinical Nurse Manager – Workforce and Operations, you will play a pivotal leadership role within the Emergency Department Nursing Leadership Team. Working in partnership with the Nuse Unit Manager, you will provide operational leadership across workforce planning, recruitment, rostering, operational performance and patient flow and service coordination to support safe, efficient and responsive emergency care delivery.

This unique opportunity for an experienced Emergency Department leader who enjoys balancing clinical excellence with workforce strategy and operational performance. You will work closely with nursing, medical and multidisciplinary teams to optimise workforce capability, support staff development and contribute to the successful expansion of a growing Emergency Department.

You will:

• Lead workforce planning, coordination and deployment across the Emergency Department
• Support operational readiness, patient flow and department performance
• Work in partnership with Clinical Nurse Manager – Quality and Risk
• Monitor departmental activity and operational pressures to support timely operational responses and escalation during high demand
• Mentor and support ANUMs and nursing staff to build workforce capability and engagement
• Contribute to recruitment, rostering and workforce sustainability initiatives
• Be part of an exciting ED expansion that will shape emergency care delivery for the Wyndham community

What you'll bring

You’re a confident and approachable nursing leader who thrives in a fast-paced Emergency Department environment. You combine exceptional clinical expertise with strong operational and workforce management skills and are passionate about creating an engaged, capable and high-performing team.

To thrive in this role, you will have:

• Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse
• Postgraduate Critical Care or Emergency Nursing qualifications
• Extensive clinical experience within an Emergency Department
• Demonstrated leadership experience in workforce management, operational coordination and service delivery
• Experience supporting workforce planning, rostering and staff deployment within a complex healthcare environment
• Strong understanding of Emergency Department operations, patient flow and access performance
• Excellent communication, relationship-building and stakeholder engagement skills
• Proven ability to influence, problem solve and lead teams through periods of high demand and change
• A commitment to delivering safe, patient-centred care while supporting staff wellbeing and development

Desirable:

• Postgraduate qualification in Health Management, Leadership or a related discipline
• Previous experience in clinical leadership roles within an Emergency Department or other acute healthcare setting

You will also be required to provide evidence of, or in the process of obtaining:

• A current Police Record Check and Working with Children Check.
• Proof of current influenza vaccination and other vaccination status consistent with public health orders.
