 The Clinical Director of Orthodontics oversees clinical operations, quality assurance, and business growth for the orthodontics department across multiple clinic locations. Operating as a dual-track leader, you will provide elite chairside orthodontic care to patients while simultaneously managing clinical staff, mentoring providers, and optimizing operational workflows. This role bridges the gap between executive business goals and chairside clinical excellence—directly driving patient outcomes, regulatory compliance, high case acceptance, and the overall financial performance of the orthodontic service line. This position reports to the President.  

Job Responsibilities & Duties

  • Deliver high-quality orthodontic care directly to patients at least 2-3 days per week. 
  • Direct and support staff orthodontists by conducting evaluations and coaching for high performance.  
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) like case acceptance, production goals, treatment time, and treatment conversion rates.  
  • Complete chart audits and documentation compliance 
  • Lead training and mentoring new associate orthodontists.  
  • Provide flexible clinical coverage at various locations during staff vacations, leaves, or peak volumes. 
  • Coordinate with cross-functional leadership to align clinical services with business goals. 
  • Implement evidence-based clinical guidelines and workflow standards. 
  • Interview and contribute to hiring selections for orthodontists to ensure candidates possess both top-tier clinical skills and a strong cultural fit. 
  • Partner with HR to forecast staffing needs, write clinical job descriptions, and maintain a pipeline of orthodontic talent. 
  • Partner with the Training & Development team to develop and strengthen clinical processes, procedures, and training. 
  • Lead monthly Doctor meetings. 
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • DDS or DMD degree from an accredited dental school. 
  • Certificate in Orthodontics from an accredited residency program. 
  • 10+ years of active clinical orthodontic practice, with at least 2 years in a leadership, managerial, or multi-site role.  
  • Exceptional organizational and leadership abilities, strong financial acumen, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.  
  • Time management and multitasking skills. 
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. 
  • Must be eligible for dental/orthodontic licensure in all 50 states. 
  • Travel is required.   

Preferred Qualifications

  •  Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics (ABO).  

Working Hours & Location


Expected schedule: 

  • Clinical Patient Care - 2-3 days per week  
  • Administrative Leadership - 2-3 days per week  

Clinic Schedule

  • Monday - Wednesday: 8:45AM - 5:00PM CST
  • Thursday - Friday: 6:45AM - 3:00PM CST
  • Saturdays: 7:45AM - 1:00PM CST

Travel will be required to various Orthodontic Experts locations.

Skills Required
