The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. Description of Work

The Medical Dietitian position is responsible for assessing nutritional status of offenders in prisons throughout the State of NC in the Dept. of Adult Correction and make recommendations to providers regarding optimal medical nutrition therapy and compliance.
This position will also be required to provide training for in-service classes for food service and medical staff on nutrition and being able to evaluate the program outcomes.
The Medical Dietitian will serve as the liaison between Food Management and the Medical Departments to ensure that therapeutic diet orders are written in accordance with policy.
This position requires thorough knowledge of Medical Nutrition Therapy and how it relates to chronic diseases and must be proficient in assessing nutritional status.
This position is also required to be able to communicate effectively both written and orally and must be proficient in using computers to include Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Salary Range: $52,848.00 - $79,272.00

The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:

  • Demonstrated comprehensive knowledge of Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) and its application in the management of chronic diseases.
  • Proficiency in conducting thorough nutritional assessments to determine individual nutrition status and needs.
  • Proven ability to design and deliver workshops and in‑service trainings, including conducting research, organizing agendas, developing educational materials, presenting content, and evaluating program effectiveness.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey information clearly to individuals with diverse educational backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer skills and related software applications.

The Support Services Division manages various operations across agency facilities statewide, which include maintaining facilities, managing fleets, and ensuring offenders receive proper nutrition. The departments under this division are Central Engineering, Central Supply Warehouse, Facility Management, Fleet Management, Food and Nutrition Services, Radio and Transportation Communications, and Sustainability and Energy Management.
