The Clinical Dietitian provides nutritional expertise to medical and clinical staff, patients and families.  Strives to improve patient outcomes and decrease hospital cost and length of stay by adhering to medical nutrition therapy protocols and providing nutritional education to patients, family members and staff.   Relies on some experience and judgment to complete job.  Works under general supervision.

Responsibilities
  1. Nutritional Assessment
    1. Effectively provides high quality nutrition care with critical thinking to inpatients and and outpatient(s) through nutrition assessment, education/consultation, monitoring of nutrient intake and adjusts therapy to meet patient needs.
    2. Demonstrates critical thinking and knowledge in Anthropometric measures, assessment and education with the following age specific groups: infants, pediatrics, children with special needs, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
    3. Participates in multi-disciplinary health care teams as cardiac rehab, discharge, weight management, healthy lives, health and wellness, etc. and over-all planning. Serves as nutrition resource person.
    4. Demonstrates knowledge of current nutrition therapy and research.
  2. Education
    1. Demonstrates technical tasks in performing assessments, education and follow-ups with the following: infants, pediatrics, children with special needs, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
    2. Conducts nutrition-related Health Promotion programs and in services within the scheduled time frame.
    3. Continually strives to learn and help develop knew nutrition material//programs.
  3. Documentation
    1. Completes assignments as directed by the Manager of Nutrition Services. Reports are neat, accurate and on time.
    2. Documents thoroughly in medical records, meeting the pre-established criteria for charting.
    3. Completes the previous months activity summary sheet by the 25th day of the month.
    4. Completes all work on time and fills in where needed.
    5. Demonstrates consistently in chart documentation the ability to chart documentation according to the pre-established criteria.
  4. Collaboration and Partnership
    1. Always strives to make good use of time; seeks out work and projects that need to done; always uses time to departmental advantage.
    2. Deals effectively and professionally with patients, physicians, and other professionals.
  5. Other Duties as Assigned
    1. Demonstrates creativity in completing work and new projects.
    2. Continually strives to make the best use of time during the day through careful coordination of daily patient priority.
    3. Completes all assignments, reports, and special projects by the specified deadlines QA/CQI activities.
    4. Responds to changes in the work schedules as necessary; continually uses time to departmental advantages.
    5. Demonstrates a complete understanding of all policies and procedures concerning the Nutrition Services area.
    6. Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing with professionals, patients, and the general public.
Qualifications

Education - Bachelor's Degree and Completion of Accredited Dietetics Internship Program
Special Skills - Computer Skills, Customer Service Skills, Working Knowledge of Nutritional Care Process

License & Cert - Current Louisiana State License or Provisional License Dietitian/Nutritionist and Registered Dietitian or Registered Dietitian Eligible through the Commission of Dietetic Registration.

Skills Required

  • Bachelor's Degree and completion of an accredited Dietetics Internship Program
  • Current Louisiana State License or Provisional License Dietitian/Nutritionist
  • Registered Dietitian or Registered Dietitian Eligible through the Commission on Dietetic Registration
