Major Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for the EHR and provide in-depth support to the entire inpatient care team (physicians, nurses, respiratory therapy, care management, dietary, etc.) and serves as a liaison between clinicians, operational leadership and IT. Tackles multiple complex clinical workflow issues, troubleshoots system issues and guide users through hundreds of complex clinical workflows. Communicate and Collaborate with IT team to address technical challenges and enhance system functionality. Troubleshoots and proactively monitors/evaluates the effectiveness of applications and systems. Serve as a subject matter expert for 2 or more specialty areas in the inpatient setting.  
  • Performs advanced troubleshooting support and complex issue resolution independently and in conjunction with IT and other partnering departments.  Escalates more complex issues as appropriate. Serves as the primary source of escalation for complex issues and helps to coach/educate troubleshooting techniques to the team.  
  • Help to identify tactics to manage change related to technology adoption. Provide end user support and identify resistance to change and mitigate with change management principles 
  • Provides basic reporting tool assistance to end users. Participate in organizational efforts to reduce administrative burden including the enhanced use of decision support tools and the use of data to drive decisions. Leverage clinical data analytics to drive informed decisions and create actionable insights through dashboards and reports.  Evaluates effectiveness and recommends modification to programs accordingly.   
  • Conducts complex clinical operational/technical needs and workflow analysis and recommended outcomes to align information technology with practical business initiatives and well as formulate practical requirements for operational improvements across the inpatient and entire continuum of care. Ensures successful implementation, administration and documentation of new and/or existing clinical applications. Participate in cross-functional teams in reimagining clinical process and pioneer novel approaches to enhance patient care, teammate satisfaction and safety and outcomes 
  • Implement evidence based practices and drive continuous improvement. Analyze clinical workflows to identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies and areas for improvement. Assist in the development of innovative solutions that streamline processes, enhance patient care and boost efficiency. Participate in cross functional teams in implementing workflow enhancements. 
  • Provides ongoing support and ensures successful implementation, administration and documentation of new upgrades, releases and enhancements. Perform purposeful rounding in assigned areas, focusing on new functionality and opportunities for end user optimization. Suggest CI driven optimization topics and programs based on usage data from the EHR and other sources.  Go to resource for EHR related questions and concerns and other clinical systems as assigned.  
  • Partners to develop and implement education training programs which support the successful adoption of computer application and critical components into the patient care process, utilizing a competency-based approach. Partners with the regional informatics training and education team to assist in training delivery as needed. Provides informal guidance/resources to new team members and customers. In partnership with the training and education team, evaluates training effectiveness and recommends modification to training programs accordingly. Integrates knowledge of policies and clinical resources into educational programming. 
  • Mentor and coach other clinical informatics teammates sharing your expertise and lessons learned. Serves as a resource to other clinical informatics teammates and coaches to develop specific skills. 
  • Serves as an initial point of escalation to end user requests for assistance. Understand the pain points, challenges and technology needs related to the EHR and other clinical systems. 
  • Assist in onboarding of new Clinicians, introducing them to EHR functionalities and efficiencies as needed. Informal assists with new clinical staff.  Assist users in personalizing system settings to align with user preferences, either in person or virtually as needed. Continuously seek ways to enhance user experiences and outcomes. Analyze EHR usage data to identify opportunities for end user optimization and participate in activities to increase efficiency and adoption.  Recommends additional training and education for multiple areas and roles based on ongoing evaluation and assessment.  
  • Works in partnership with interdisciplinary teams and site and regional governance groups to identify opportunities for optimization and technical improvements/changes that foster streamlined and integrated workflows. Identify opportunities for process optimization within clinical workflows. Collaborate with clinical and IT teams to streamline tasks, reduce redundancy and enhance efficiency. Promote adherence to recommended workflows. Support system upgrades and enhancements, ensuring smooth transition. Through formal and informal rounding, educate end users on best practices for utilizing clinical systems effectively. Determines needs based on evidence based practice, regulatory requirements, quality initiatives and business critical needs.  Recommends new applications/design modifications to enhance clinical operational needs.  
  • Develops and maintains key partnerships with site/market/regional leaders and senior leadership to improve and influence outcomes, safety, operations and regulatory preparedness.   
  • Is able to participate in and lead EHR analysis and design sessions with subject matter experts and other members of the IT interdisciplinary team to ensure that end user needs are addressed. Focus on standardized best practice workflow processes and clinical content to ensure alignment across all sites/departments to support improved quality and patient safety outcomes. Assists in identifying metrics that monitor the effectiveness of implemented projects and programs. Responsible for leading clinical informatics department projects and is expected to manage to the project deadlines, project resources and effectively collaborate with other support departments or operations if relevant. Develop test plans, scenarios and acceptance criteria of new or enhanced clinical workflows 
  • Assist the training team in delivering virtual training sessions for clinical staff as assigned. In partnership with the training team, develop job aids, quick reference guides and other material. 

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:

  • Epic Clinical Module Certification or attained within 1 year of hire 

Education Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, IT, Nursing or other related healthcare field 

Experience Required:

  • 3-5 Years Clinical Experience with extensive experience in the use of clinical technology systems OR  
  • 3 Years Clinical Informatics Experience 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Strong communication skills and ability to convey technical information to non-technical users, as well as coach other teammates in the ability to translate technology to our clinical users.  
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to proactively identify areas for improvement 
  • Passion for healthcare technology and a commitment to advancing patient care 
  • Ability to lead in all phases of the clinical information system life cycle (e.g. plans, designs, builds, tests, implements, monitors, evaluates as a member of the interdisciplinary team.

  • Master’s Degree in Business, Healthcare or IT 
  • Licensed Clinical Professional Preferred 
  • ANCC or non-nursing certification equivalent in informatics
