Location: Brisbane, Queensland or Sydney, New South Wales. (Regular travel to Canberra, Melbourne and other capitals expected)

Thoughtworks is a global technology consultancy that integrates strategy, design and engineering to drive digital innovation. We are expanding our ANZ Public Sector, Healthcare and Life Sciences practice to meet a step-change in demand across federal, state and territory governments, with a particular focus on Queensland and the Commonwealth.

We are hiring a Client Partner to lead a portfolio of strategic public sector accounts, with healthcare and life sciences as a secondary focus. This is a senior, market-facing role for someone who already operates with credibility at SES and C-suite level in Australian government and who understands how to convert relationships into multi-year, outcome-based engagements.

Why this role, why now

The Queensland Government has allocated $1B to the Minister for Customer Services for a whole-of-government technology refresh. Olympics infrastructure investment is accelerating modernisation across transport, health and citizen services. At the Commonwealth level, the DTA Investment Oversight Framework continues to drive consolidation and reform across major digital projects. Thoughtworks is positioned to lead in legacy modernisation, AI delivery, data platforms and digital service transformation. This role exists to convert that positioning into sustained portfolio growth.

What we offer

A flat, transparent culture that values judgement and ownership. Direct access to global capability across AI, data, modernisation and digital transformation, including the AI/works platform. A leadership team that backs its people and expects them to back themselves. A practice with real momentum and a clear plan for the next three years.

Job responsibilities
  • Lead a portfolio of public sector accounts and carry a personal book of USD 15 to 20 million in annual revenue and bookings, with clear margin and growth expectations.
  • Own the go-to-market plan for your portfolio, set account strategy, and lead pursuit through the full cycle from origination to contract closure.
  • Will work alongside the ANZ Public Sector, Healthcare and Life Sciences leadership team, regional MD APAC, and our delivery and capability leaders to bring the right offer to each agency.
  • Will be expected to operate as a peer to senior client stakeholders, not as a vendor. The expectation is curated relationships, substantive conversations and commercial outcomes, not transactional sales activity.
  • This role requires regular travel within Australia, particularly to Canberra, and across Queensland and NSW. Thoughtworks is a hybrid organisation. Connection with clients and colleagues is core to how we work, so the role is not remote-only.
Job qualifications
Technical Skills
  • Deep ANZ public sector experience. You know how Commonwealth, Queensland and NSW agencies actually buy technology services. You are fluent in BuyICT and the Digital Marketplace Panel 2 (SON4102906), QITC, ICTA, NSW eServices, and the relevant state and territory panels. You understand the PGPA Act, IRAP, ISM, PSPF and the ASD Essential Eight, and you can hold a credible conversation about DISP, AGSVA clearances and the implications for engagement models.
  • A proven senior network. You have established relationships at SES Band 1 and above in the Commonwealth, and at deputy director-general or equivalent level in Queensland and NSW. You are comfortable being the person in the room when the agenda is strategic, not procedural.
  • Commercial track record. You have personally led portfolios of AUD 15 million or more in professional services revenue, with demonstrated growth across multi-year engagements. You understand the levers of margin, pricing and commercial structure in public sector engagements, including managed services, outcome-based contracting and panel arrangements.
  • Delivery credibility. You have sold and overseen the delivery of complex agile software, data and AI engagements. You can hold your own in a technical conversation, you respect what good delivery looks like, and you partner well with delivery leaders rather than treating delivery as a downstream concern.
  • A connector posture. You build a pipeline through trust, curated introductions and substantive thought leadership, not through volume outreach. You bring a point of view to every client conversation.
Professional Skills
  • Strategic Vision: Combines a global business sensibility with the ability to translate high-level concepts into tactical action.
  • Value Creation: Expert at crafting compelling value propositions and driving outcomes that increase client revenue.
  • Executive Presence: Comfortable interfacing with C-suite leaders to influence strategy and propose innovative solutions.
  • Consultative Mindset: A natural, solutions-oriented consultant who builds rapport and credibility through industry insights.
  • Forward-Thinking Innovation: Infuses thought leadership and emerging trends into client partnerships to stay ahead of the curve.
  • Balanced Execution: Masterfully balances long-term visionary strategy with the day-to-day execution of change agendas.
  • Effective Translation: Simplifies abstract, technical, or strategic concepts into clear, actionable business ideas.
  • Collaborative Leadership: Thrives in flat, transparent environments that prioritize feedback, openness, and agility.
  • Expert Negotiation: Views negotiation as a strategic opportunity to strengthen client trust and establish professional authority.
  • Commercial Acumen: Experienced in leading sales teams, managing diverse commercial models, and optimizing margins.
