Job Description
The role

Our Client & Market Development function ("C&MD") is pivotal in making the Firm's vision a reality. C&MD works strategically with our Global Business Units – all with the same vision "to be the global law firm of choice for the world’s leading businesses of today and tomorrow".
Clifford Chance's London Global Financial Markets practices ("GFM") are recognised as market leaders and work with many of the world's pre-eminent financial institutions and investors.
This role sits within the GFM C&MD team in London and supports the Project & Development Finance Group, which covers renewable and new energy (including a new firm initiative on energy transition opportunities), infrastructure, conventional power, oil & gas and mining & metals.
Who you will work with
You will work with the wider Client & Market Development teams in London and across the global network. The role will provide direct support to the Executive Manager, Project & Development Finance, as well as the Executive Manager, Global Energy Transition given the close alignment in stakeholders.
You will interact daily with fee earners in the London Project & Development Finance Group and others across this very global team.
What you will be responsible for
The purpose of this role is to support the development of the group, through the delivery and project management of business development, sales support, client focus and marketing initiatives. In this role you will work closely with product group partners to facilitate the flow of information, highlight cross-selling opportunities and deliver top-quality pitches, capability statements and marketing initiatives.
What you will do
Operational lead:
- Responsible for operational BD support to the group.
- Support on the implementation of the group business plan in collaboration with the partners; assisting with client targeting/mapping and opportunity spotting.
- Act as an ambassador for the market profile for the group.
- Manage and implement process improvements.
Lead on the production of tender documents (pitches and proposals) including:
- Lead on pitches and credentials from start to finish. This includes project managing the kick-off call and deliverables with the key stakeholders involved as well as seeking input from other areas of the firm as appropriate (pricing, different practice groups depending on what is required), compiling and/or updating the document, and ensuring each request captures our USPs and key experience.
- Assist in the development of presentation materials for pitch presentations/"beauty parades".
- Work with the team and partners to ensure capability statements are maintained and regularly updated.
- Send out pitch alerts on a timely basis and ensuring that the pitch results are maintained in our system.
Marketing Communications
- Project manage directory and awards submissions (including interviews and comms) as well as league table submissions.
- Project manage the production and distribution of marketing communication materials.
- Marketing campaigns, conferences, sponsorships and advertising.
- Internal newsletters.
- Client events (virtual and in-person) and other business development meetings (e.g. team offsites).
- Support the public profile of the group by maintaining the BD pages of the group's internet and intranet sites and supporting press opportunities.
- Extract financial data and rate information for use in pitches and client development/targeting initiatives.
- Liaising with fee-earners and other business professionals / business support staff to ensure all client contact information is stored, categorised and maintained on InterAction.
Industry / Sector Connectivity
- Work on various global, local and cross-practice initiatives for sector/sub-sectors (including working on strategic priorities such as the energy transition).
Client Focus
- Supporting core client development programme.
Qualifications
Your experience
- You will have experience of working in a marketing or business development team, ideally within the professional services market or equivalent experience in a client development/account management role.
- You will ideally have experience of /an interest in energy, infrastructure and the energy transition.
- You will be able to demonstrate a track record of being proactive and delivering high quality work.
- You will need to prioritise projects and respond quickly to requests which have a short turnaround time.
- You will be able to plan and organise effectively to meet business priorities.
- You will communicate clearly, persuasively and with sensitivity, both orally and in writing (including strong editing and proofing ability and attention to detail).
- You will understand your role in the broader context of the group, the firm and its clients.
- You will need to be able to gather and analyse information and share the insight gained to bring about good decisions, solutions and action.
- You will be able to form strong working relationships with others and use those relationships to benefit both the group and the firm as a whole.
- You will exhibit self-motivation and flexibility to improve continuously both quality of delivery and personal performance.
- You will exhibit commitment to the team and demonstrate reliability as an active participant taking the initiative to help make things happen.
- You will need to be flexible to ensure that the areas within your responsibility are well managed while contributing positively and enthusiastically to the C&MD programmes in other areas.
- You will be confident, resilient and focused.
- You will have strong general software skills (Excel, Word and PowerPoint). Experience of using InterAction is also preferable.

This role follows our 'balanced' hybrid working approach and as long as business needs allow, you will be supported to work in a hybrid way with the expectation of working from the office for a minimum of 50% of your time.
